This may seem like a totally obvious question, but.... WHen you are counting your daily calories and eat 500 cal less than yuor body burns in one day, do you guys take into account the cals burned from activities for that day when calculating the 500 less?
For example, your average daily caloric intake is set at 2300 and you are eating 1800 each day. If you, say, walk 4 miles and burn, say, 300 calories. Do you take that into account and eat an extra 300 calories that day, or let it add up for a greater weight loss?
E.g. 1800 cals eaten - 300 cals used in activity - 2300 cals used by body = - 800 cals net burned by body that day
Is there a point where you may be burning too many calories by eating less and exercising more?
In the weight watchers point system, you are allowed to either add the points you earn by exercising back into your daily point budget to eat, or you can bank them (not eat them or save them for later in the week)....
Just something I was wondering about.
Thanks,
niki

I know what you mean, and no I don't take into consideration those calories burned by activities during the day. BUT, If I have a really active day and I'm hungry above and beyond the calories I have allotted, then I eat.

glunky...are you currently doing weight watchers? If yes, do you like it ? Are you finding success? Just curious..I've tried it a couple of times, but I hate counting points and calories for that matter.

I use DietPower to keep track of calories & they do that math for you. On the bottom of the screen it says: Budgeted + eaten - burned = Remaining and the totals are below it.
I usually make sure I have some calories remaining, depending on how much activity I do during the day. At this point, I have 2700 calories in the bank. It's not like I'm going to use them but they are there for the "bad days".

I was on weight watchers for just under a year, 18 months ago. It was good to start with and I lost 25 lbs in the first 5 months. But then it started to fall flat. I hit a big plateau and couldn't shake it, despite joining a gym and exercising religioiusly 5 days a week (while still watching the points).
I stayed with it for the next few months, going down 7 lbs more in that time, then started to find less and less support from my leader and my group. Every week my leader seemed to ignore me more and more, seeming reluctant to acknowledge my comments during the group sessions. This, along with the lack of results and the frustration at shelling out $14 every week to see no results and get this treatment, I stopped going. I later heard from another leader that my old leader felt I was making her look bad (she prided herself on having the most successful group and I was bringing down her average).
So, needless, I have some bitter feelings about it, but the basics of it are very easy to follow and sound. I still find myself counting points rather than calories (easier math) sometimes, but I think it is better designed for people who have less than 30 lbs to lose.

thanks glunky...I too lost with weight watchers but eventually found the weigh ins a pain and I never went to the meetings. That's too bad about your leader, some people just don't have other people's best interest at heart. Maybe I'll review my book etc, and try counting my points again for a week and see what happens.

no you're not supposed to count calories burned when taking into account calories. just calories consumed. since how are you supposed to count walking to your car? or wiping down your car? there are more activities than just what the treadmill says and so just count calories from food. makes sense.

I don't consider what i burned during the exercise.
I've only cut back 500 cals from maintanince so should lose 1lb just from that...but i'd love to see better results from that....so if i lose more than 1lb i know the exercise is working....and therefore it keeps me motivated to keep doing it :-)
Although the last several times i've WANTED to walk and felt really good afterwards... I've been doing it for a month now....and am hoping i have passed that MAKE myself do it and am into the I WANT to do it zone
I still have not upped my distance... I'm up to speed walking HALF of the track
I figured when i can speed walk 90% of it and not hurt too bad i'll start going around twice
