Carbohydrate is our main and most important source of energy, most of it is provided by plant foods.
Healthy foods high in Carbs:
Sugars or simple carbs can be found in fruit and milk. Complex carbs can be found in cereals/grain such as bread, rice, pasta, barley, millet, buckwheat and rye, as well as some root vegetables such as potatoes and parsnips. Unrefined carbs such as wholemeal bread and brown rice is especially good for you as they are high in essential dietary fibre and B vitamins.
Contrary to popular belief, a slimming diet should not be low is carbs. In fact, starchy foods are very filling in relation to the number of calories they contain.

D

I agree...a diet without carbs, is bound to be troublesome. Maintenance could be particularily difficult, unless you plan to never eat carbs again. I believe in a balanced diet...eliminating any important nutritional element just doesn't seem like the best option to me...
Of course its important to keep your carbs at a reasonable level, but if you keep portion control in mind, there shouldn't be any reason you can't enjoy a nice pasta dinner, and still lose weight!!!

Your brain needs carbs to function properly; your muscles need protein to repair; your body needs fats for hormone production.
All three food groups are vital to the human organism--I wouldn't cut any of them out.

I tried the really low-carb thing for a short while way back in the beginning, but just didn't like it and knew darn well that I couldn't do that for very long. So I went to calorie counting and just kept an eye on fat, protein and carbs to make sure nothing got out of hand. My carb intake is always higher than the fat & protein intake, but mostly from fruits and whole grains.
My favorite carbs are: whole wheat breads (read the ingredients, not all whole wheat bread really is), apples, clementines, brown rice, bread machine wheat pizza dough, whole wheat tortillas.

I like rye crisps and rye vita, rice cakes. We experiment with odd grains. Some are very tasty and nice for a change. I think the trick is complex and refined carbs. Whole foods are much better. Also, just watch what all you spread on them.

the terminology of simple and complex carbs is somewhat outdated..the new terminology for carbs and energy response is their glycemic index...this is how your blood sugar responds to carbs...starchy carbs such as potatoes, white rice and white bread give you surges of energy...this arent the ideal and are more suited post exercise when u have depleted your blood sugar (known as glycogen)..your best bet would be to eat more low glycemic carbs ...these are energy lasting carbs because they give you steady amounts of energy over the course of hours and they make you feel fuller...basmati and brown rice, vegetables, whole foods, nuts, dairy, most fruits, duram wheat selmonila pasta are good examples of these sorts of carbs...but dont neglect carbs..carbs are energy to do things basically
