 Had an accident

Remember everybody, how I'd been saying I'd plateaued and wasn't losing anymore? I was working out twice as hard, and had to increase my calories a little because I was so exhausted. I couldn't focus, and was blaming it all on no willpower. I got motivated again, worked even harder... still no results really, my muscles look great, but I'm retaining fluid more than usual, and the pounds are staying put!

Well, I have a really good reason, I found out. You know how, when things are going really good for you, you're thinking you have your sh*t together, then life throws a curve ball at your head? Yep, you guessed it.

I'm pregnant. :o

I can't believe I'm so stupid that I let this happen. We really hadn't planned on another one, but I guess God has different plans. It could be worse. I am happily married, we have two kids already, the two car garage, a dog, even a fourth bedroom, the idyllic life. I guess another baby is far from the end of the world. (It's not like we're going to need that 4th bedroom for guests anyway. Nobody is going to want to stay with us and our THREE kids! Ha ha!)

But I'd lost 25 pounds!!! Now I have to gain it all back! :(
Anyway, I'm going to keep exercising, it's good for preggies, and I've never had trouble carrying my babies, so I'm not high risk. But, aside from even more reason to continue eating healthy, I can throw the reduced calorie budget out the window.
I'm going to keep reading your posts, because I feel like you've all become my extended family, and in about nine months, (when you've all met your goals already...) I'll be starting over again. Hope you'll still be there for me! And, any parents of three out there, I'd love some encouragement. I'm an only child, this is like, UNTHINKABLE to me! :)

The surest way to make God laugh... is to make plans.
Jeanie

Congratulations! A new baby...aww, I am so happy for you and your husband! I am so sorry it came at an odd time though...but you can do this! My girl is now 2...and when I got pregnant with her, I had lost some weight and felt really good. I was NOT going to let pregnancy make me stop being healthy...SOOOO, I ended up only gaining 10 lbs..the WHOLE pregnancy...my daughter was born weighing 8 lbs 13 oz, and when I left that hospital, I weighed less than when I got pregnant...and I was SOOO SUPER HEALTHY and so was the baby!

The whole 6 meals a day works perfect when you are pregnant...you get less full, less morning sickness that way...and the baby always has the nutrition it needs to grow! Remember to use all of your knowledge and it will be perfect for you! You will look great...lose fat while you are pregnant and start all over again when the baby arrives!

Congrats again...I think that is such exciting news!

I guess it isn't the worst thing that could happen. It was just so unexpected. I come from a really small family, so I think this may end up being just the thing for us. I have BIG family gatherings to look forward to in my old age! Whereas, my mom and dad only have me. I keep trying to look on the bright side. My daughter and son will never be close, since they're over six years apart. It's like having two "only" children, my daughter has her own agenda most of the time. But my son and this baby will only be two and a half years apart, and everyone tells me that is perfect. Anyway, sorry I'm rambling. I guess I need to find a pregnancy forum. :) Thanks for your encouragement!

Hon, that is great......you were so right when you said it is God's plan and not yours. There is a reason and a purpose for this little itty bitty life growing inside you and that purpose is far more important than any weight loss goal in God's eyes. I can so understand your feelings of overwhelment.......it will be a challenge....no doubt......but you have taken challenges before......I mean...you lost 25 lbs. that's a great challenge! Congratulations to you and your beautiful family! God Bless!

Jeanie,

This is wonderful! I'm an only child, and I always wanted a big family... I don't have any kids yet, but in the future I'm hoping to have 2 or 3 children.

Congratulations, and I'm really happy for you!

Melanie

Hi Jeanie -

Congratulations! Although I realize it must be quite a shock to you initially, I can see that the idea seems to be settling in wonderfully. You seem to be, at the very least, very well-equipped for this event - a healthy body, your husband, and a big enough house to accomodate a new-comer.

You really do not need to gain a significant amount of "non-baby" weight during pregnancy - not everyone does, when they watch what they eat. Baby weight (the baby, placenta, fluids) is only 16-20 lbs. usually, and this goes away automatically as soon as the baby is born. And the concept for "eating for two" is not true - you only really need to add about 1/9 of the calories you require (to maintain your current weight at you activity level) for the optimal development of the baby. It's really more the nutrient quality of the food - calcium, iron, etc. - than the caloric quantity that matters. It's difficult though since your hormones will be driving you to eat and eat. But you've had an exercise in discipline with diet, and I'm sure this will help.

Besides, even if you gain weight, you've got good muscle tone and bulk now (thanks to all your hard work) so it should be easy to lose the weight afterwards.

I doubt you weightloss is your priority nowadays, but I hope this helps anyway.

Michelle

Wow Congratulations CakeLady!!
I have 3 daughters; 2, 4, & 8. Our third wasn't planned either, but of course I wouldn't trade her for the world, (at least not at this moment, she's being really good right now) just kidding! I thought it was going to be really hard with 3, but it wasn't at all! The hardest transition I thought was going from 1 child to 2! So don't worry, it'll be a breeze for you!! Don't stress about your weight, just keep doing what your doing with your diet! Enjoy this pregnancy!! Congratulations!!! Jill

Thanks so much everybody! I think we are getting used to the idea, and I know once the baby's here, I'll wonder how we got along before. It was also a hard transition for me, going from child 1 to child 2, with 6 years in between them. I'm still in the "baby groove" right now, so it might not be so hard. Of course, this morning my son got a hold of a permanent marker and colored on all the walls, so we're now making some plans to redecorate. (Secretly, I don't know why I didn't think of that before... I've wanted to repaint for seven years!) Hopefully, my husband won't decide to disown ALL the children, (hee hee.) Anyway, whether it was planned or not, it's God's will. I'll trust Him, and be thankful for it... I'll try anyway. And I don't really care about the weight gain. Both pregnancies I only gained about twelve pounds, and the babies were 8 and 9 lbs. I've actually always had trouble gaining enough weight to keep my doctor happy, ( last time, he gave me a recipe for a chocolate ice cream and peanut butter milkshake, and told me to drink one every day, until I reached the weight I was supposed to be at. Bleah!) and I always lose a whole lot in the weeks following delivery. But then they start sneaking back on a few months later, while I'm still too tired to exercise, but not to eat. Who knows, this might be a blessing in diguise! But it's a heck of a way to get over a plateau. :)
