Ok.... so where do I begin. Well, bottom line I need to lose 35 lbs. I followed the body for life plan by bill philips, and yes it did work.... I went from 210 lbs to 168 lbs in a 9 month span, but I just got so sick of eating only certain foods. I really love to eat.... which is probably my problem. I love chocolate, but I don't eat a lot of greasy or deep fried foods. I have a sugar intolerance, meaning that any sugar I enbibe goes straight to my ass, so I try to avoid carbs unless they're whole wheat products and/or sugar free. I go to the gym 4 days a week minimum, do 20 - 30 minutes of running on a treadmill, I do 50 minutes of weight training, alternating between upper and lower body, and after 3 months of this (mind you I wasn't eating the bill philips recommended foods... just eating a lot of salad, vegetables and high protein low fat foods) I still haven't lost any more. I gained over Nov and Dec (long story) so now I'm at about 178 lbs. I can't possibly imagine eating only salad and protein for the rest of my life...I don't know what else I can do to lose the weight fast and then keep it off. I've been trying to read more about pilates.... anyone know about it? Does it work?
Thanks,
Luna

I feel like our stories have some similarities...I started my "lifetime mentality" back in June. I'm 5.3, medium frame & have gone from 189 down to 159. I totally agree that limiting your food choices too much is boring and just plain unrealistic. I also try to exchange simple carbs (white bread, white rice etc..), for complex carbs (wheat and whole grain breads etc..). I've made my baseline plan as simplistic as possible which for me is simply counting calories and trying to keep them within the 1600 to 1700 range. By doing this I find myself eating better automaticlly..because I can eat a lot more yogurt, fruit, veggies than I can candy, chips and soda. I feel like balance is the most important thing when it comes to changing for a lifetime. Think of everyday as a clean slate have your complex carbs, enjoy your veggies, try new fruits!, enjoy dairy, etc...all within the framework of "balance". I try to remember the food pyramid, only mine looks like this the bottom are fruits and veggies, then complex carbs, then protien...dairy and fats (smart fats having preference..ie? olive, omega 3's etc...). As far as sugars go I too have a severe intolerence (I get on a blood sugar rollercoaster!). So I don't eat them. Then there's that balance thing again! I choose to indulge once a week in Healthy Choice icecream. I've eaten my icecream now since June and so far I've lost 30 lb's! I beleive it's because I say no all week so I can really enjoy my icecream guilt free and there by end up eating far less sugar. Does that make sense? Whoops! Want to write more (pilates...). But I need to go pick up my kids!!!!

I HAve no idea on the pilates but Im gonna try the TAE BO thing maybe you could try that? We both have the about the same amount of weight to lose I was around 195 now Im down to 176 and have seemed to stall and Im really getting tired of my treadmill ( Thats the only thing I have) So I will try to shake up my routine a lil and try TAE BO and do that one day then treadmill the next.... someone had said that its good to shake up your routine a lil so your body doesnt just get used to 1 thing.
And as far as running my favorit say is "I WASNT BUILT TO RUN ONLY BUILT TO STAND MY GROUND" So instead of running on the treadmill I walk really fast:)
Hope this helps

Back again...I've never tryed Pilates. They look interesting to me too..From what I know about it they're a mix of old fashioned calestetics and stretching. It looks like the moves elongate the muscles which I need!
Let me know if you try it. Right now I walk 3 to four days a week for 30 min.s(bad day) and 45 (good day).. I also do strength training 2 to three days a week (free wts mostly). I want to add in stretching!!! That's my new goal as far as excercise is concerned.
Just because I feel like it, here's my eating for today...
Breakfast 2 slices of whole wheat toast w/yogurt butter (Brummel and Brown)
Lunch Subway 6" turkey w/baked chips
Dinner Spinach quesadillas (low fat recipe)
I was hungry between lunch and dinner and would have had a snack (probablly a yogurt w/1tsp. wheat germ, but I didn't have time today!!!

The thing I did before starting pilates was go to my public library and check out a few videos for free(good idea since it prevented me buying one the ones with the really boring instructor!) after viewing a few I felt comfortable enough to spend money on the pilates for dummies videos from zellers...Hey for $8.88 I figured it wasn`t to bad if I didn`t use it....
This is the route I would recommend, borrow differanat ones from the library to try out first so that you can pick one suited for you...What I like about the beginners version of pilates for dummies is that I only need comfy clothes and an exercise matt to do it, no fancy rubber bands or foam platform etc...The exercises are basic enough for my taste and I don`t feel like a pretzel while i`m doing it but I do feel like I had some massage or something a few hours later because my body doesn`t feel so tense. I also like that they have the easier version of the exercises popping up on screen to make things better, they also tell you when to breathe and will give you the more advance version also...Eventually i may be able to move on to a more advance video but I truly feel that this one is a nice way to start and a nice addition to my work outs. The bonus though is that I have been doing karate class since july and some of the moves (stretches and stuff) are now easier for me to do since I strated doing pilates a few weeks ago....Like I said if you borrow from the library first you don`t have nothing to,lose

I don't know about Pilates either but last year I took aerobic kickboxing and yoga, which were offered at the gym at my school, and I definitely started to tone up and look better. Also, if you're doing stuff like that, don't get on the scale because you'll build muscle which is heavier and depressing. Just take mental notes of what you look like, now and then a week from now. The results can be pretty quick if you're eating healthy.

Hi, Thanks for the tips!! I agree that balance is the key, but I really have serious problems with over indulging when it comes to chocolate. I guess I'll just have to work on that. I'm just finding it frustrating all around :P. If/when I try the pilates, I'll let you know how it goes. :)) Thanks again for all the advice.

I know what you mean about the choclate. I think everyone has their nemisis..for me it's icecream that's why I have to indulge once a week. If choclate were "my thing" you might want to consider how can you indulge in moderation. I know it's hard! Some things have to go bye bye, cold turkey, never to be eaten again. But if it's something you will fill deprived of? Once choclatey item that's low in calories are Little Debbies choclate covered marshmellow treats, or their's choclate grahamy (I can't spell!!!) bears, or choclate rice crispey bars. Could you do one serving of one of these once a day for a treat? Got to go! I'll check in after I run my errands...

Hi Luna! I have the same passion for chocolate that you do. I buy those little chocolate cake-like cookies that are covered in marshmallow and dipped in another layer of chocolate. They are like 60 calories, I think. I can't remember the name-brand of them, because I buy the generic version. But I allow myself one of those every day, so I don't go on a total chocolate blow-out. To make it an extra special treat (and I know this is going to sound funny to a lot of people, but it works for me) -- After the kids are in bed and the house is quiet for the night, I take a wine glass and fill it with skim milk, get my cookie, light some candles, put on some relaxing music, prop my feet up and savor every bite of that cookie! That is one of my favorite times of the day...when everything is quiet (I have 4 kids) and I can just relax with my "treat". If I find myself wanting to have a chocolate binge during the day, I just think about my nightly routine and know that my chocolate fix is coming soon, and I'm ok. My husband thinks I'm nuts...but so what? LOL! That's also the only glass of milk I have during the day...because I can't stand white milk unless I have chocolate with it! LOL!
Hope that helps...it's just one of the "little" things that helps me stay focused.

I have a pair of really nice champagne glasses that I never use.... let's see... and for my chocolate fix???......Maybe a double stuffed all chocolate oreo?.... Hmmmm or maybe a chocolate chip cookie..... Anyway, I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again.
