Hi Folks,
Just joined the site tonight and already I have started a fight about grits. Pretty good, huh? I'll bet not too many people endear themselves that quickly.
Anyway, I am getting my mind ready to do what all of you are trying to do. I need to drop about 50 pounds fairly quickly. I seldom (almost never) cook and therefore usually eat from public food joints of various sorts.
I would appreciate any help or advise you may have. Also, I would like to know if anyone knows anything about LA Weight Loss Centers and whether that might help me.
I did lose about the same amount of weight about 20 years ago using my modification of Nutri System. However, I have gone to their website and it looks like all the stuff has changed--food, how you purchase it, etc., and I couldn't do the same thing with them now. It would be like starting all over and I don't think you can order individual items and modify their diet as you would like.
That's where I am. I appreciate any help from any sources.

Hi Johnny, I don't know anything about LA Weightloss. Most of the us here just count our calories, try to eat healthy, and get as much exercise in that we can. I know it's hard, but in the long road if we change our diets/lifestyle ourselves we'll be more able to be able to maintain later, at least that what a lot of people feel. I had a friend that loss weight with Nutri System and she gained it back about as fast as she lost it. The same goes for most diets, fad or healthy, we must learn to deal with our eating habits and change them permanently to be able to keep the fat off.
Most of the resturants carry some low calorie and healthy food. You can get a pocket calorie counter or go to www.fitday.com or www.calorieking.com to find out the calories of foods. They have many of the chain restautants listed as well. If the ones you like are not listed, go to their web sites and usually they will have their menu along with a calorie and nutrient count.
Come to this board often and you will get many tips, recipes, and meal ideas from the other members.

Well, eating from home is better since you have more control over the specific ingredients, but for those who just don't like to cook or whose schedule does not allow for much cooking and you have to eat at restaurants then do some online research of the calorie and fat content of the items at the various restaurants you usually go to, that way you will know ahead of time what to ask for, as many restaurants are likely to have web sites with a nutrition information link.
Subway is famous for having some low-fat subs, here is a link to their nutrition page -
http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/MenuNutrition/Nutrition/frmNutritionInfoTemplate.aspx?InfoPage=USA_Sandwiches.htm
.....if you dine at McDonalds or Burger King then your choices might be severly limited to a few of their salads (and you still need to watch what you put on it),
here are some links to their nutrition pages -
http://www.mcdonalds.com/countries/usa/food/nutrition/categories/nutrition/index.html
http://www.burgerking.com/Food/Nutrition/InteractiveWizard/nutrition02.asp?mi=&dp=1&mt=1
......and I just did a search and found this web page that has info on various fast food nutrition all in one place -
http://www.dietfacts.com/
and here is another one I found -
http://www.kenkuhl.com/fastfood/
.....see if you can find web sites for the restaurants you usually go to, and if they don't happen to have a web site then I would just call and ask if they have a printed list of the nutrients in their various dishes so you can know the calorie and fat content ahead of time and know just what items are ok to order.

Thanks for the advise from all--especially you Gary with all the various websites. Also, congratulations, I read your post elsewhere that you are going to save a ton of money on a scale next week.
Thanks again folks.
