I have a stupid question...How much water is enough and how much is too much? Or is there even such a thing as too much?

I don't think there' such thing as too much water... (well unless you drink the entire ocean lol). You're suppsoed to frink at least 8 big glasses of water each day PLUS another glass of water for every 25 lbs you're overweight. Hope this helps.
P.S.- The 8 glasses DO NOT include water in foods... this is in addtion!

Well, I'm not sure what exact amount would be too much, but I had a friend who went on a diet and started drinking lots of water. One day she had like 4 liters of water, and she ended up feeling and getting sick. So, I'd say you can always have too much of something. On the minimal side, have AT LEAST 64 oz of water a day.

I used to drink close to a gallon of water a day. It was distilled water and it began leaching minerals out of my body. Distilled water in large amounts isn't necessarily bad as long as you add a mineral additive (I'm doing that now). I'm back up to 3-4 quarts, but I'm breastfeeding right now, so my situation is a little different. Also, I've been reading how if you haven't been drinking enough, don't go and just gorge yourself. Your body is somewhat like soil. If there is a huge rainfall in the desert, it just runs right off. Drink 4-5 oz. every half hour or 45 min. This will hydrate your body and you won't necessarily end up going to the bathroom all of the time. Also, if you go drinking too much too soon, water is a cleanser, it will trigger your liver and gallbladder to start processing and getting rid of stale bile. some of that might back up and cause nausea. Just some thoughts...

Hyponatremia, AKA water intoxication, occurs when the body's salt and water levels get dangerously out of balance, leading to swelling of the brain and leakage of fluid into the lungs. It can occur when athletes, hikers, etc., sweat heavily, losing both salt and water, but replace only water. Diagnostic signs: dizziness, disorientation, headaches, extreme fatigue, death.
A friend of mine I used to work with tried drinking GALLONS of water a day to lose weight. After a couple of weeks, she ended up in the hospital with seizures.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

I read some place a couple days ago on a web site just about water (I can't remember where it was) that a person needs to consume half their body weight in ounces of water, ex. a 200-pound person needs to drink 100 ounces of water per day. I did it yesterday and it's actually not too bad. You don't feel like you're drowning in it. It also said that for every soda you drink to drink an extra eight ounces. Who knows, but I'll try it since my fingers have been swollen every day when I get up.

One hot June night when I was in highschool, I sat down to study for an final exam with a gallon of cold water. i drank it in about 4 hours and woke up in the night shivering and feeling really really sick. I ended up in the hospital with an iv drip to help rebalance by sodium/potassium levels. Pretty dumb little episode of mine.
try to avoid large quantities of water (more than 3-4 glasses) at one time, especially cold water, which can actually shock your internal organs if too much is consumed at one time (doesn't feel very good either).
