 Gymmachine/glutamine

I have started working out each day. After 30 minutes cardio I am working the lower body three days and alternate the upper body three days. Just starting out I am doing three sets at 50 to 100 pounds depending on the exercise.
Reading your article on glutamine, how does it work and how is it used. Does it in fact help burn fat by keeping muscle intact?

Hi Ya, I'm not GymMachine! However, I have a similar schedule as you: I have done 30 minutes of cardio 5 mornings a week for several years now, but I recently upped that to 45 minutes daily to get off a weight loss plateau. After the cardio, I do weight training for my upper body 3 times per week (Mon, Wed, Fri), although it is just 25 minutes per session with a pair of 10 lb hand weights. On the 2 other weekdays (Tu and TH) I do lower body stuff after my cardio for about 30 minutes: squats, lunges, ab crunches, calf raises, and several kinds of leg lifts. On the recommendation of a friend, I started taking 500 MG daily of L-glutamine at the same time that I increased my cardio from 30 minutes to 45 minutes daily (to get off a weight loss plateau and try to get the last few pinds off.) Whether because of the extra 15 minutes daily of cardio work (which doesn't seem like much extra), or because I got some kind of push from the L-glutamine, I don't know for sure, but I am losing weight again, albeit slowly, and in just the last 2 or 3 weeks, I have lost another half inch from my hips, and a half inch from my chest, and am DEFINITELY looking firmer all over. Currently, I am at 134 lbs, and want to be somewhere around 128 to 130 lbs, so I am getting there, and my slimmer fit clothes do look better on me now! This is just my take on the glutamine, and don't know if adds anything to what you already know, but I intend to keep taking it, and intend to use daily exercise to maintain my lower weight now that I've got back down into the healthy range!!! Cheers, Dee

i dont remember putting up an article on glutamine lol..i must have posted one of my friends ones..L-Glutamine is the most abundant free form amino acid in muscle tissue....whilst we produce it ourselves, some of the demands we put on the body like cardio and weights tends to deplete these levels and we do not produce enough...studies have shown glutamine has muscle sparing effects, especially in times of calorie deficits...it also, like creatine, has a muscle volumizing effect..it too drives water into muscle cells making them look fuller, therefore aiding you to lift more and inevitably help you gain more muscle mass (assuming everything else your doing is spot on)..note that the volumizing effect isnt as noticable as creatine, it does have its advantages...as for fat loss, glutamine may be indirectly involved..the more muscle you hold- the more calories you burn, but it isnt a thermogenic or not something designed for fat loss...it may aid in strength/mass gains and has become the third most sold supplement ever (behind protein powders and creatine)...i would suggest to get some definately if your lifting heavy because it does aid in recovery and has those muscle sparing effects...it is best taken after cardio or weights immediately...5gms is the normal dose and the powder form tends to work better..if you can afford it, it is also beneficial to take it in the morning as u wake aswell, but there is no need to go over 10 gms per day
