 Gymmachine Question...

The article you posted yesterday mentioned the Max-OT being the most effective form of weight training. I did some research yesterday on this and read about the method on www.ast-ss.com. Do you know anything about this method? If so, what is your take on it? I probably will try it but will tweek the program a bit. The author says to do heavy weights for 4-6 reps and only work two muscle groups a day once a week. What I will do is work the entire body once a week since this is convenient for me. The authors says that the recovery period is important just as the author of the superslow method said. What I was wanting to do is weight train on Wednesdays and cardio on Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fridays. My question is, would doing aerobics interfere with my muscles recovering? My cardio will either be 20min on the elliptical, 30-45min step aerobics or 30-45min of bike riding (not stationary). I do not want to give up cardio as I'm still trying to lose 20lbs. Please advise!!

Thanks,
melve

welllllll thas a toughie...theres split opinions on how cardio affects any muscle gains....some same it does, some say it doesnt...i think as long as you eat your protein and carbs you will be ok...thats my take on it but there is alot of conflict out there on this one...MAX-OT is great..iv been using the heavy rep range since i started...dont listen to the odd sales pitch on their site, they are a supplement company after all, and although their supps are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of actually working, i still derive the info from the max-ot workouts and articles by paul cribb...it doesnt matter too much what muscle groups you do and when, max-ot is just a starting point really and gets u used to heavy weights...but if your going to do the whole body in one night your going to be very sore the next morning, you may not even be able to do cardio for a few days lol...ideally split it up atleast into 2 days...that way you can lift heavier with more concentration, your gym 'visit' is short, and your body wont produce as much catabolic hormones (when your in the gym too long, your body does secrete mean and nasties!)...just put weight training at the oppisite end of the day to cardio and you should be fine

Well I don't do it for two weeks now and I have a.) lost weight and b.) toned up more than I ever have. If you do weights and your trying to build muscle, your effectively hammering it if you do cardio the next day. It pushes you cortisol levels up and you need to have the exact opposite for muscle growth. It takes days to repair muscle after a workout, so why go hammering it the day after and causing a set back. Seems like a waste to me actually. People say cardio fires up your metabolism, but muscles do that when you allow them to grow a little. I've felt more energetic since I gave up the cardio and worked on weights properly for three hours and more a week. When I think of all the hard work I put in in the beginning and how I slowed my progress down, I could scream actually. I've made way better progress without the cardio.
