 Gym Workout

I've been doing 20 Minutes of cardio each day, and on alternating days doing weights with Arms/Legs (M*W*F arms T*T legs) I also walk each evening at home. Is this an appropriate exercise schedule for someone trying to lose weight?? I do this routine Monday to Friday and just do walking on the weekends. I think i've mastered the diet end, but i'm unsure of the exercise part! Thanks for any advice!

Thats fine for a few weeks, I wouldnt adhere to 7days a week for much more than a month though. You will become overtrained at some point. Id suggest sticking with 3-4 days of weight training a week(sep. bodyparts after the first month), and doing 2 days of real cardio after the first month, but step it up to 45minutes, and try to become more intense each time. Also with weight training, remember that strength and muscle mass are joined at the hip, you wont gain mass w/o gaining strength(for the most part), and the only way to become firmer/more defined is thru losing bodyfat, and building mass. After the first month of your current 7day a week plan, change it to 5-6 days a week, make sure to take at least one day off.

You can walk every night that you desire, as it is so low impact that it will not adversely affect you in any way. Walking is my fave method for just plain old burning calories.

That plan outlined is basically what i have been doing for the past 2 months. Ive gained bigtime on every exercise, and lost 17 total mass pounds, while dropping my bodyfat 9.5%, so far(5" off my waist, whilst adding 1.5" to my chest). Im super intense in the gym however, i hit one bodypart per 9 days on my particular split.

Here's another question...

Is it wise to introduce new cardio/exercise methods that focus on different muscles when you are trying to lose weight?

Let me explain... I have been working out 5 days/week alternating yoga with cardio and weights (now weights and cardio). Yesterday, to add something new, I did a basic-level tae-bo class. Yesterday afternoon and today, I can barely move. my back muscles were too stiff to try yoga and at most I was able to walk slowly around the block for an hour (it's the next-day muscle pain, not a pulled back or anything). So, although I'm sure the tae-bo will be good for me, in the short term it is putting me somewhat out of commission...

Should I still keep with it?

This is just a guess on my part, but I would say yes stick with it. Sounds like you are working out muscles you either haven't before or harder than before.

Same thing happend to be raking leaves two weeks ago, but I sitll have to rake leaves...:) LOL

Thanks so much for the info! I should have clarified some thought, the walking I do in the evening and on the weekends is strictly for leisure, walking the kids or the dogs! Being quite out of shape still *l* I'm not sure that 45 minutes of cardio at once is even in my ballpark yet, so i'll just have to slowly work my way up to it! :) Thanks again

I don't think it's a good idea to overdo it, you could injure yourself. I have tried the Beginner Tae-Bo & I thought I was going to die about half way through!! So I started with his 8-minute tape which helped me to work up to the full work-out. Although I've just really started working out again 3 weeks ago, this was a way for those less used muscles to get used to working out. And after the 8-minute workout, I was sweating & my heartrate was elevated, that Billy gives a great workout!! The next day I could feel it in my abs. Hope you feel better!

Speaking of Tae-Bo "I love it"......I first did the instructional and now I am on the Basic..That Billy gets me pumped up....As soon as I finish working out with him..I do the things I need to do.."Housework" I work out with Tae-Bo M-W-F and T-Th..I go take a walk with my 4 year old daughter...On the weekends I go shopping..(Usually just window shopping!!!!! ) :-(
Now I think I'm ready to get the Advanced Workout...Hopefully I can keep up with it...On the basic I finally got to where I'm able to keep up the pace...Woo, What a workout!!!!!!!!!
