I was just wondering, since I am exercising with cardios, strength training, karate class routinely now as part of my road to a healthier me and have altered my eating habits to meet the recommended food guidelines in a lower fat way, does it matter if I don`t go for those supplement stuff I see posted quite frequently?
I`m aware of the need to buid muscles and stuff but if I do this by watching my food intake and making sure to have a well balanced exercise programm is it going to interfere with me getting healthier if I don`t take supplements? No matter what you tell me, I have to be honest here I most likely won`t go out and buy the stuff anyway at this point but from reading a brochure that came in the mail about all those supplements and body cleanser I figured I would get a better idea if I asked you since you are not trying to sell me the stuff...Thanks in advance...Leanbutt

well supplements are basically a just that..u dont need them if u get enough in your diet....however like most of us, your in calorie restrictions right?...not that u could build reams of muscle anyway being female, but u lessen ur chances of any muscle growth with inadequate protein...so if ur muscle development isnt going the way u like, or u want some more definition i would add a protein drink to your shopping list...the other stuff like creatine and glutamine u dont need as much, thats for us hardcore junkies lol...but to actually grow, u do need alot of protein and that is extremely difficult to get from the average diet...otherwise that breaking down of muscle that u do in the gym doesnt get 'built back up' properly..protein is muscle, muscle is protein..considering u need protein for hair, nails etc etc and just to live, the extra shake here and there will go towards building those muscles back up...otherwise eat alot of chicken, turkey, lean meats, but again they add up to calories in which u dont need alot of...its hard to stay in calorie restrictions to lose fat, and get enough protein in the diet for your muscles to actually grow...im 160 pounds so i need 160gms of protein per day...( SO 160 x 4 ( 4calories in a gram of protein), = 640)..so theres 640 calories gone everyday just for my muscles to grow..the rest is carbs and fats....now having said all this, do you think your muscles have grown or your showing more tone/definition?..if u say yes, then dont worry about it, your muscles wont get much bigger if at all (beginner gains are off the charts), but if ur happy then dont bother with the extra protein....thats the only real supplement i would reccomend for you really, unless u wanna take a multi which is probably just a safe guard incase u dont meet daily intake requirements whilst on calorie restrictions.

Oof....:D , Thanks Gym Machine that was a lot of good info, the fact that you ask the ? about what I thought of my muscles etc also really help me see a clearer picture...One thing came to mind, I often read the line"you would just be a smaller version of your former self..." well I`m definitly not a former version of my former self, even when skinny I didn`t look this toned, when I`m wearing shorts it`s easy to see the muscles definition in my legs ....I even started wearing a bathing suit around company this summer because I actually didn`t mind the look of my arms and shoulders and my buut doesn`t look to bad either(actually I think my butt has reach it`s goal!!!he,he,he)....The only area I wish would look better is my belly and love handles but hey I did lose 5 inches around my waist since january so I`m certainly am going to keep up what I`ve been doing.... Thanks again for your help I guess I don`t need to take the protein stuff yet...Although I watch what I eat, I don`t count calories, instead I avoid high carbs, high fat and go for grilled leaner cuts of meat.....:D Leanbutt
