 Gym..?

Good Morning. It should be about 9:00 AM there!

I'm looking for an article about losing fat and gaining muscle. I think that the general consensus is that this either cannot be done or it's very hard. I know we have talked about it before. If you can explain it than please do. I guess I'm wondering how low does my BF have to go before I start gaining muscle. I know I have a ways to go...I'm at 26.7 last I checked.

I looked at the Eric Satterwhite site, but there are just so many articles. I hope you can direct me.

Thanks!
Michelle

Hi Michelle.
Sorry for butting in, but I didn't think your BF had to be way down to build muscle. As far as I knew the BF needs to be down for it to be more visable. I THINK!!!!!!
I could very well be wrong. I will have to check back and see what GymMachine tells you because now I am really curious. Great Question.
Have a great evening.
Kim

his first 3 articles, building muscle 24/7 and anabolic aerobics part 1 and 2 i think will help...ast-ss.com is a supplement company but i have found there staff to be usefull...you can do a search on their articles...use Paul Cribb's articles when you look because he is the brains of it all...look at the breaking research and articles section of Paul and sift through for some interesting info on everything really.

Some people believe that building muscle requires an abundance of calories...more than you need...hence putting on unwanted fat weight as well as muscle...bodybuilders do this and have done so for years...what they do is eat and eat and grow (with muscle and fat) and before competition time they diet and do alot of cardio, hence losing fat and sometimes a little muscle (such is their cal restrictions)...heres the thing...muscle requires protein to grow and will grow only from protein and nothing else...whilst we do need carbs (glycogen, energy etc) and fats (healthy heart, etc), protein is the key for muscle...now i dont wanna be like a bodybuilder and have to eat like a horse to grow muscle wise and then have to diet to cut up...its just not practical for me personally to go through fat/thin stages or as they call it 'bulking and cutting phases'...im sure its not practical for 99% of the population either...so why not eat the required amount of protein to grow (1 gram per pound of body weight) and skimp somewhat on the rest of the diet should it be necessary...having a high protein diet means u have to restrict some other things a little in order to not overeat...say carbs for example...doesnt mean u have to atkins like, but huge pasta meals are usually out...myself, im a bread and veggies fan along with morning cereal and wholemeal cracker buscuits...the rest of the day is protein and some fats (fats usually take care of themselves in a diet)...and you can do all this to a calorie maintanance level or slight cal reduction and still grow...your muscle is getting its protein so you have that area covered...now perhaps you wont grow as quick or as much as the bulk and cut people...thats because those who overeat to grow muscle wise will cover all their bases to make sure they are getting enough of EVERYTHING...and consequently get a little porky in the process because its too much of a good thing...so its about finding a happy medium where u can get some lean mass gains without adding fat...you will get split opinions on if it can be done or not...some will throw scientific jargon at you from both sides of the fence...personally i didnt want to get fat again to get some gains muscle wise...so i chose this way...it does work, i have grown muscle wise and have lost alot of fat in the process...infact that eric satterwhite guy is in the same boat and he is in terrific shape...the wrestler, Triple H, has gained 20 pounds of lean mass in 3-4 years and has not added a shred of fat to him...those guys r required to take drug tests and i couldnt tell you if he is on steroids or not, but the point remains it still can be done, roids or not...as a woman your genetically pre-determined to not get enormous gains anyway...so why go through the rigmorals of putting on fat to get some lean mass...your best bet is to do it like me and up our protein intake at the sacrifice of other things (not too much sacrifice!)...i hope this helps some...and Kim is right too, you dont have to reduce bodyfat levels to start gaining mass...you can gain mass at any time.

Thanks Gym, no I don't want to do the bulk and cut stuff for sure. I'll look up those articles! If you remember, I had increased my protein and then had to cut back due to the kidney thing - I was pretty bummed out. But my doc says everything is fine. I think I'll add my protein shake back in.

My BF goal is to be LEAN, around 15 - 17 percent! While taking a break from BFL, I've been concentrating on cardio more than anything. I think to get the look I want it's time to add the weights back in. I just feel like I have so much fat to lose why bother? I've read all the benefits and I printed your last posts to me and I think I take it to the Fitness Center with me this morning.

Michelle
