 Grr and Possible Water Retention?
Author: TARA

Well, I was proud of myself last week because the scale was showing 132 and 133 each morning for about 4 days in a row. Then, after losing a little bit of control of my eating habits (nothing extreme but probably 300-400 cal more for a couple days), the scale shows 135. Argh. Did I just sabatoge my efforts or is this water retention from the lack of veggies and fruit over the past, hmm... 3 days (Friday, Sat, Sun)? When do you find that water retention seems like the most obvious culprit? Is two or three pounds extra possibly due to water retention?

Thanks,
Tara

Yes, it's very possibly water retention. Your weight can fluctuate by as much as 5 pounds, even in one day.

There is no way you gained 2-3 pounds of fat by consuming 400 more calories for a couple of days. It takes just as many calories to gain a pound as it does to lose, 3500.

Don't worry about it. For me, like after a weekend, I'm always up 2-3 pounds and by the middle of the week I'm back to my lowest weight. It's all normal.

Totally agree with both Lee and Michelle. And yes, Michelle, I too spend about 3 days fixing the weekend! ;o)

What foods cause water retention? High sodium? Are most junk foods high sodium, including deep fried stuff and ice cream? It's amazing how the body works and although it's annoying on the scale, the body is doing its job to stay healthy!

Thanks for your comments. I feel better to be told than to be wondering.
