Last summer, both of my big toenails, crumbled up and and slowly fell off because new nails were growing underneath. This past month, the nails on both of my second toes have done the same thing.
I'm 36 years old. Is it normal for this to happen at my age? Is this due to a vitamin deficiency - or - I'm wondering, is it that I'm finally feeding my body so well that I'm getting new toenails?
I wouldn't be surprised because I'm finally getting in my wisdom teeth, even though x-ray after x-ray at my dentist office every year has not shown them and lo and behold, they came in over the past six months. Not to mention, my dental hygienist had to barely scrape any tartar/plaque off my teeth and she said it was because my teeth were so healthy from my dietary change - it was that evident!
Any opinions?

Do you run a lot?
I had my big toenail fall off a couple of years ago when I kept stubbing my boots on rocks while on a very long hike. When I searched the web I found that it is very common for runners to lose toenails due to the friction from shoes that do not fit quite right. Google on "running shoes "Black toenail"" and you will find a bunch of links.
I think there is also some sort of fungus that can cause this.
I do not think it is normal to shed nails. But it is not something to really worry about.
