They should now focus on which of these groups of dieters maintained their weightloss...I'm willing to bet that Atkins dieters wouldn't look so successful vs. those on a different more sensible diet...

Personally I just can not agree with any high-fat diet, perhaps in the short run it may not be too much of a problem, but I don't think anyone can justify eating high-fat over a longer period of time, I think that simply reducing calories, (and reducing fat for health's sake) eating healthy foods with the calories you do eat, and exercise is the practical and safe way to lose weight.
Simply reducing calories and eating low-fat foods, with exercise, has worked very well for me, earlier this year I was about 360 lbs and now I am about 210 lbs, and I feel great and do not feel deprived or hungry, but am able to eat enough to feel full with the nutritious low-calorie healthy foods I do eat.
