Well I just went to see the woman about body comp today. She weighed me (179.5 lbs) and took my height 5'5" (I was off by an inch) and hooked me up to electrodes to measure how much fat versus lean body mass I had. I can't remember what the name of this test is. It's abbreviated ELG.
So.... according to her, I have 123.88 lbs of lean body mass, and a total body water count of 39.2 litres. So.... essentially she's saying that I have a total of 55.62 lbs of fat weight on my frame -- some of which is subcutaneous tissue and organ insulation -- standard stuff. She seems to think I"m retaining water -- A LOT of water. Though, I'm not showing any symptoms of such -- and I drink plenty of water anyway.
She wants to do a hair mineral analysis to see what minerals I have too much of, too little of and just the right amount of. I'm not sure what I'll do. She seems knowledgeable enough; she put my ideal weight between 139 and 153 (147 was mid range). So anyway, I'm still no closer to a solution at this point and I'm not prepared to spend $200 for a 6 week weightloss program that may or may not work. How frustrating.....
Just thought I'd share for what it's worth.

I wouldn't trust anyone who might try to convince you that you have some sort of mineral deficiency or overage after your GP has given you a clean bill of health, especially if they want money for a diet plan. If I were you, I'd take a multivitamin and stick with the BFL plan for now. If you get desperate and are thinking about pursuing it, talk with your GP first. That's what I'd do, anyway. You're young and healthy--the chances of your having some mineral abnormality that your GP didn't pick up are next to nothing, I would think.

Well, that could be very true. I agree though, I'm not going to jump into a plan with someone who 'claims' I have a disorder of some kind. Still, the fact remains that I'm 'stuck'. At this point I'll continue BFL and I'll bring this info to my GP and see what he has to say. Maybe there are other tests that he can run that might be of help. On the other hand, maybe I am perfectly fine, however I have to be very honest, I can't help but feel that I'm missing something here. I mean reallly..... BFL aside...... I should be losing BUCKETS of weight eating and living the way I do.
Anyhoo, thanks for posting! Much appreciated. I'll keep you informed of the what's what.

Luna,
Just curious about the tests you've had.
Is the person conducting these tests a medical doctor or have some type of recognized medical credentials.
When you mentioned the $200 weight loss program, is that a program that is run by the office that conducted the tests?
How much are they charging you for these tests and what is the cost of the hair mineral test they want to give you?
Are you paying for this out of your pocket? Or is insurance covering these tests?
Just curious.

Well the person running the clinic has the following credentials:
HN and NS (sorry she told me waht they were and I forget). But yes, she is accredited here in Canada at least.
The hair mineral analysis is $80 just to have the test done. She would take the sample and send it to the lab I assume.
As for the weightloss program, she offers that herself. The initial package is for 6 weeks and she 'claims' I'll lose 2 lbs a week, but she strongly recommended the hair test as oppose to the weightloss program, as she seems to think I've got the nutrition and exercise thing under control. I'd have to pay for both out of pocket. My insurance MIGHT cover the hair analysis test, but I'd have to inquire. Most weightloss related tings are not covered in Canada unless you have a diagnosed condition like Hypo/Hyperthyroidism, etc.
Anyhoo, as I posted above, her belief was that I am suffering some kind of toxicity and after the research I did this morning, I'm apt to suspect aspartame. I'm cutting that crap outta my diet and I'm gonna keep on pluggin'. BFL and EFL and so on. I'll keep you posted.
Cheers! :))

My guess is, along with the weight loss program, the clinic also sells a bunch of pills and supplements (probably at pretty high cost) to help put the body back in balance as well.

I have never heard of such a thing. Please tell me this is a joke. How long before the test do you have to stop washing your hair? All these new hair products seem to have some mineral or another in it. I'm sorry Luna but this just sounds odd.

Then you won't be surprised when after you have your hair analysis results read, the person running the clinic pulls out a catalog or points you in the direction where you can purchase some high cost "supplements" to offset your body's mineral imbalance (and you will have one).
If I were you, I'd be doing some personal research into the whole nutritionist/hair analysis game before I started parting with some serious money--it's out there.
