Hi everyone. I'm new to the board, so I'll introduce myself:
I'm 46, have four grown kids and three grandbabies (an 8 year old and 20-month old twins). I've been over weight virtually all of my adult life, and I've been "dieting/gettinghealthy/determinedtoloseweight/etc" for years. I did lose almost 50 pounds 5 years ago and have kept it off, but I'm still 80 or 90 pounds heavier than I should be. I'm finally ready to get back on that horse and lose the rest of the weight--actually, I HAVE to lose it: I've got high blood pressure, and I don't want to take meds the rest of my life. I'm also getting married May first, so I have plenty of motivation. (No, I don't expect to lose 90 pounds in the next 3 months!)
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Thanks, everyone, for making me feel welcome! I've missed the support boards like this one give (I was using one when I lost the first 50 pounds, but it switched over to a pay format, and I haven't found anything to replace it until now!)

Of course! Everyone is invited. We're roasting a pig in the ground afterward, so there'll be plenty for everyone :) The wedding will be small, but it's a big deal to us. Richard (my sweetie) was my first boyfriend--met him when i was 12 and he was 15. We were inseperable until I broke up with him (I was 16 and rebelling). We each married other people; I moved to CA and Richard went to NY. 25 years after we borke up, I got an e-mail from him. His wife had died several years before, and I was divorced. That was 5 years ago this May. Just goes to show we can find romance no matter WHAT our body type is :)
How did I lose the first 50 pounds? Mostly by choosing to eat healthy foods more often than unhealthy foods. I realized low fat, high fiber REAL food was more filling and gave me more energy than my usual potato chip riddled diet. I ate more food--never went hungry--and my health improved when I cut out the processed foods, refined white flour and sugar, etc. and replaced them with whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies (mostly organic) poultry and lean meat--you know the drill.
That was right before Richard and I got back together. Since then, I've spent so much time celebrating that I've ignored my weight. I haven't gained the weight back, but I'm 5' 5 1/2" and about 225 pounds so I still have 80 pounds to go. Richard is 6' and about 165 pounds, and I don't want to look huge in the wedding pictures, so I'm getting serious again.

Welcome! and congratulations all in one.
It sounds like you have a good handle on the way to loose the weight.
It's good to talk to someone who has kept it off for 5 years. That's encourageing to me.
I'm going to be 60 this year and I don't ever want to be overweight again.
