I did some further searching and found an article this evening which seems to be more in depth about short high intesnity workoutds and long low intensity workouts and the differences where fat loss is concerned. I found it interesting to read since in the book I have there is a very brief paragraph about it but it doesn't actually go into depth about how it works and why it works. This artcal below does it very well. Happy Reading. :)

I am not regurgitating Bill Phillips....I have posted a few URL's that are from scientific study here. If you don't pay attention to medical advances, they have a habit of slowing down progress. :) We will disagree on many things basically, but when people are given the wrong advice about eating what they want after a workout becayse they deserved it--taking themselves backwards again---don' t mind me chipping in will you? You see I did think that the exercise was to creat a deficit--espeically when "losing" weight. Your referring to body builders that don;t need to lose weight and are gaining. there is a big difference between what they do prior and post workout and what someone losing fat at the same time as gaining muscle is concerned. Like I said the body goes from catabolic to anabolic within minutes of eating food. It is therefore not so uregent to really eat within a certain time after a workout unless your intention is to GAIN weight only. We are all trying to LOSE it here as well as become fit. There are huge differences.
Someone may read your post and think because they have exercised they can eat sugar and it will be fine. Well No not really. Why replace it straightaway when the body continues burning fat after a 20 minute high intensity workout. Also we need arenaline to switch our metabolism over and start burning fat after a workout. Most people on low intensity do stop burning it after the session.
So if you choose to disagree with the basic reason why we are as over weight people are doing excercise (to create a calorie deficit---not replace it with something food wise) then your progress will be slow as far as I am concerned.
There will be many out there that cannot move with what new science and studies bring forth---but I don't choose to restrict myself as you seem to be doing where that is concerned--in fact if anything, in learning that much and advising other's I perceive I have "updated" them on the correct protocol. if they choose to follow yours, they will get wise sooner or later. There may be some cynics, but I firmly believe that I will reach my goals by February--and keep it off. That will be through having an open mind about new scientific studies I directed everyone to here. It isn't words that impress though is it---it is pictures and results that count. Roll on February... :)
