(this is a copy of something I posted on the thread "Gary" which someone else started, that I figured might have some helpful info for others also figuring out how much weight they should expect to lose weekly so I reposted it here for those who did not read the other thread, you can read the original thread for all the posts if you wish)
Here is a more detailed explaination for how my weight was coming off so fast -
When I started my weight loss program the calories I needed to maintain my weight at that time was 4,790 calories a day, and now at about 65 pounds less (280 lbs) the amount of calories needed to maintain my weight has dropped to 4,090 calories a day, so a daily difference of 700 calories x 7 days = 4900 calories divided by 3500 = 1.4 so if my daily calories stays the same (it would be hard to reduce it more since it is already so low being under 1000 a day already) and my exercise level stays the same, then I would lose about 1.4 lbs less per week than when I started if my calorie intake and exercise level stays the same.
When I started on July 9th and my maintaince calorie needs were at 4,790
and I ate about 700 calories day, that was 4,090 calories less than maintaince,
multiply times 7 = 28,630 calories under maintaince level weekly,
divide 28,630 by 3500 = about 8 pounds per week weight loss,
so I figure the 5 miles a day on the treadmill brought it up to 10 lbs a week.
Now being 65 pounds lighter my daily maintaince calorie needs has dropped to 4,090
and eating about 700 calories a day makes it 3390 calories under maintaince daily,
multiply times 7 = 23,730 calories under maintaince level weekly,
divide 23,730 by 3500 = 6.78 pounds per week weight loss,
so this past week the 5 miles a day treadmill brought it up to about 8 pounds for last week.
(since I'm lighter it does not require me to burn as many calories to do 5 miles a day
as when I was heavier, so it only added about 1.2 lbs instead of 2 lbs like before)
So since I can't really reduce my already very low calorie intake, then that only leaves
trying to increase the exercise, 5 miles a day is easier now than it was at first, so that
is not the problem, it's just trying to find the extra time to try to do an extra mile or two
a day when I can, also I am considering adding other exercises in addition to weight lifting.
Here is a web page I found online where you can input your weight, age, ect. and it will
tell you what your maintaince calories level would be for your current weight among other info -
