You can find the whole article at www.abcnews.com
I'm in the extrovert category and have started really enjoying heading down to the gym everyday. I learned everyone's name and we all share our goals and experiences. I'm sharing everything I've learned over the last 4 years (alot I learned right here). I've helped one lady increase her cardio and she is already seeing results faster than she was before.
What category are you in??
Studies confirm exercise doesn't have to be painful to be effective, so pick an activity that gives you some joy, whether it's mall walking, yoga or ballroom dancing, and stick with it.
Here are some examples of physical activity tailored to your personality:
Introverted: Walking, Pilates, yoga, martial arts, swimming, home gym.
Competitive: Sports such as tennis, hockey, basketball.
Extroverted: Group activities such as golf, mall walking, hikes, public health club.
Creative: Dancing.
Outdoors-y: Hiking, in-line skating, mountain biking, ice skating, skiing or snowboarding.
Hard-working: Housework, gardening, lawn-mowing.
Lump: Anything. Get off a stop or a floor early and walk the rest, walk to the store instead of drive.

Yup... this confirms my suspicions... I'm an introvert... well -- with the exception of playing golf :P

It makes alot of sense. I am an extrovert and liked the gym alot too. Just saying hi to the same people everyday etc getting motivated by those around me etc.
Now that I can't see much and can't drive though it kind of blows. Oh well I will just have to figure out something else.

Well looks like I'm a competitive extrovert. I love doing group aerobics, and I'm a HUGE hockey/baseball fan...love to play!

Moni, can you invite a friend over to work out with you?? It's hard for me to work out at home by myself. I have an elliptical at home and free weights too. I think it would be fun to have someone come over, but I don't know anyone that would right now...?

I'm definitely a dyed-in-wool Introvert (I always knew I was).
I know I'm definitely NOT "Hard-working," but if there is anyone out there whofeels they are coming up short on their workout, you are invited to come over and clean my house and to my yardwork...anything to help you keep fit!

My mom or my husband might do it with me and I am sure they will when I ask. I was just telling my friend I can't see the numbers on my eliptical so it's kind of confusing. I would be guessing at what level or speed I was on.
I am kind of waiting til the days are longer with more light to really start. I need to be able to do it on my own I think and not rely on people because that sets me up to not do it if they cancel etc.
It's a very long story but I am terrified of getting hurt because I have had bad accidents working out and just walking around my house before so I think it's a mental block too right now. They wanted me to go to the Braille Institute for cane training and I won't do that either LOL.
Probably an excuse I guess but I do have to take into account what is wrong with me and plan....
However I am still losing weight right now and concentrating on that which is at least positive :D

Good for you Moni!! I understand. What is the bottom line regarding your condition? If I may ask? Will you ever get to the point where you can't see at all? You sound very brave! I am very facinated with Braille. I was very interested in the Helen Keller story and have read several books about her. I wish you all the best!!!

Ha! If I cleaned my house right now, they way it should be cleaned, I could skip the gym for a week - if I did all my yard work the way it needs to be done I could skip the gym for two weeks. I think I stick with the gym. :)

Well I am 29 now, almost thirty and am legally blind. I have under 20 degrees peripheral vision. It will continue to get smaller and smaller what I can see. I may or may not go black but not all people that are blind see nothing. That is a common misconception. Some may see some light but can't distinguish a tree from a telephone pole or anything so technically they can't see.
Here is a picture that sort of shows what I can see. But if it is dark I won't see much of anything. And in just normal lighting it looks like I am looking through a steamy shower curtain. It has to be very bright for me to see this much.

It is very frustrating to say the least. I can't change it though but I can change my weight. I gotta work with what I have, I know that and I am doing that. But in my opening post here I did try and make it clear I have some limitations so telling me to put on my jogging shoes and go for a run wasn't gonna work LOL. Now maybe you can see why.
Thanks for asking.

Yes, I remember your first post. Thanks for the link. I think my husbands grandmother had this or something similar. She was in her 70's when she passed and even then she was still able to get around some and cook and lots of other things with help. You have such a positive attitude and your so right...you have to work with what you have. So, onward and downward with your weight!!! :)

According to this test, I am mostly an introvert, which sounds pretty accurate. I tried going to a gym for a while, and hated it with a passion. One of my college friends claims that I once told him that all human interaction should be conducted by mail. I don't remember saying that, but I have to admit that it's entirely possible that he remembers correctly. I still think the idea has merit . . . . But I worked really hard to get the money to pay someone else to clean my house, so does that count toward hardworking, at least?
Moni, I too have some medical problems which sometimes really interfere with my weight loss efforts, so I empathize, even though I can probably not fully understand what it is like to have difficulties with one's sight. I have been very fortunate in having a good, practical doctor to help me work around my particular difficulties and get back to a healthy weight range and stay there. Perhaps you could find someone like this by checking around, or even having a frank conversation with your main physician. It was not the sole factor that led to my weight loss, but it was a major contributor. Having someone with 30 years of medical experience who could separate fact from fiction in weight loss matters, and advise me as to how to work around my limitations, really helped me. Good luck.

I guess I'm a creative extrovert! I love being around people and I love to dance. I'll even dance infront of other people! I don't care! I usually like having people over at my house though. I've really had to convert my husband, he's a major introvert. We have at least one other couple over every weekend to play games! It's always a blast!

Thanks Miranda!! That was nice of you to think of me. All my Dr's friends, family, kids etc will support me and help me figure out whatever it is that I want to do. I hope I don't sound like I feel sorry for myself or don't know where to turn because that really isn't me. I don't know??? I really love it here for the weight loss support and the rest of the stuff??? Even if I dont lose all I want to well I am here.
I have such a short term outlook according to the MD's on my sight maybe 5 years at most?? that I need to do what I want to do NOW and not put it off, that is why I am here and am gonna stay etc and my Drs and Family support me.
I hope I can offer words of support and inspiration back!!!!
ONe thing I gotta say to people just browsing through here is RUN RUN RUN.
You will never know how much FUN that can be till you don't have that oppurtunity!!! Running can be liberating!!!

Don't worry, you didn't sound self-pitying at all, just a little frustrated and unsure of what course to follow, so I am really glad to hear you have such a great medical support system. I, like you, also had family members--in my case, one of whom had lost a great deal of weight and kept it off--whose assistance was invaluable. As you'll find, it really makes a difference. Best of luck to you--I'm betting you'll do well.
