This has got to be a topic that must have been covered a lot but not since I've checked in on the board! I find that I am fine throughout the day for eating within my range I want to eat in, but then after about 7pm I can't stop wanting to eat and eat. Even healthy stuff. I just want to eat anything.
Any advice from you recovered evening bingers would be great. I could sure use some support. I'm afraid my weight loss has been suffering lately and I know this is the cause!
Thanks.
Tara

you can eat at night...wheres the rule u cant? it all comes down to calories...spread them out during the day, graze, and if u have some left over at snack time at night then by all means eat something...if your out of calories left to spare and still hungry at night then i suggest you cut down your day serves a little to leave u room for night snacks.

What gym said, you lose weight based on your total calories in vs. your total calories out(not per day, but over time yes). Just plan accordingly during the day, then pig out at night. Count yer calories and you can eat whenever you want.

I do try to spread out my calories and I know that it doesn't really matter when I consume them, just as long as the total is right. But, after I have nearly maxed out my intake for the day, I'll be craving like mad and end up going over (or going to my limit that won't help me lose weight - like tonight). It's a vicious cycle for me b/c it's been happening often. I think it's a matter of deciding not to go to the fridge and just putting up with it. I'm so full right now as I'm typing this and I wish I could spit out about 400 calories that I consumed in the past 1.5 hours!!
Thanks again.

Tara,
How many calories are you trying to stay at/under? You may be trying to consume too few. I try to stay in a 1400-1600 range and find that to be quite comfortable, and I am losing steadily. Too low an intake will spur on the binges because your body is trying to keep you from starving it. A lot of diets suggest a 1200 calorie diet, but I don't think that is sustainable long-term, is unrealistic, and may be setting you up for these binges.

Ahhh,
I feel your pain. However something that has worked for me since I have started my climb back down the scale is that everytime I start to get one of those late evening, nothing else to do with myself cravings. I then just keep telling myself, do you want to be fat or do you want to be thin? Do you want to be fat or do you want to be thin? And then I will haul myself up from the couch and find something else to do. I will take a bath. Brush my teeth. Do my facial. Read. Get on zone.com and play some games. Call a friend. Masturbate. Just whatever it is that I have to do in order to keep myself from returning to that refridgerator once I know that my calorie intake for the day has been spent. You cannot eat more food than you can afford. So just think of it as money. This is something else that also helps to keep me from binging. You have used up all of your calorie cash for today and so you won't have anymore calorie cash until tomorrow. And that's, that. Good Luck!!

I take in roughly half of my calories after my exercise for the final meal and snack. I have not noticed that I can't lose weight. Maybe I could lose more by doing otherwise but I'm averaging 7 Lbs a month now, and I don't want anything more drastic. To do otherwise I have found I do get gnawing hunger at night. Breakfast and lunch seems adequate for enough energy for the day and get me through my workouts.

SORRY GUYS, but a bunch of you recommended her to pig out at night and graze at day....noo this is bad, because at night you are sedentary, and all those calories go straight to fat....if you lost some weight in the afternoon by grazing, when you eat a big calorie punch at night, your metabolism (already sluggish from daytime starving) literally goes to sleep as you lie there on the couch or go to bed...and at night those calories you ate go straight to fat....booooo this will slow down your weight loss!!!!!!! my tip is to drink a large glass of water at 8 o clock, and go brush your teeth..you won't eat because you will have taht toothpaste taste in your mouth, and wont want to have to go re-brush them!!!! works for me......

Thanks for the input. It is all good advice. I like the money spending analogy too. My calorie range is between 1400 and 1600 so it's healthy. Now just a matter of working with it. I'm going to work on distracting myself at night by doing everything else, as suggested. Makes sense and I'm going to make a strong effort. No more big binges.
Thanks.
