Enrolled in a gym last night...

Shari 250/153/125

Well everyone, I did it, I finally decided enough was enough and enrolled in a local gym - Pennbriar. I called them on the phone and discussed with them my kids and their health problems and asked if they had any special rate reduction programs. They said they didn't, but, they did surprise me with something when I got there.

I showed up at 4:30 p.m. to get acquainted with the people and equipment - check in hand.

THE SURPRISE: One of their fitness instructors volunteered to become my family's personal instructor 3 hours a week for free ($100.00/hour normally) indefinitely, because she felt compelled to help. I started crying right there on the spot - seriously.

During this visit some sort of body fat test was done on some sort of machine. The printout said I only had to lose 24 pounds - YIPPEE!! Unfortunately, my daughter has to lose 38. My son refused to do the test.

I asked this instructor if she felt I could be in a size 8 by Christmas (size 10 now), she said DEFINITELY. I told her my personal goal was to be able to do pull-ups, which I have NEVER been able to do. She told me it may take some time, but it was possible. As far as my abdominal/arm and thigh loose skin goes from all the weight loss, she said it was possible to tone it up, but every body responds differently, so we'd have to see about that.

I am so excited. My family goes for our first workout session with her tomorrow at 4 p.m. I'll keep everyone posted!

That's really neat! I'm glad there's people out there like that eager to help.

Actually, just a few days ago I claimed that I was not into the "gym" scene. Guess what I went to yesterday? Yep, a gym! It's a new facility at our state school for the deaf. They have opened it up to the public for a $3 drop-in fee, and the facilities are just wonderful. Pool, weight room, cardio machines, and even raquetball courts! Hardly anyone was there, and the few that were had the place to themselves. I'm hooked!

That`s awesome Shari...I`m glad someone professional decided to help you because it shows that the person believes in what she is doing instead of just killing time for a paycheck...As for your son, the teenager in him does have to rebel on some things yea know...Not wanting to do the one test is something he has control over right now...Soon he will probably become addicted to working out once he sees his toned body becoming a chick magnet LOL...Wishing you the best, you deserve it...G

I used to hang out at the gym a lot (I was in a bulk up phase for quite a while - ended up with just as much fat as muscle). It's common for trainers to occasionally take pro-bono work, it gets them "seen" in the gym, it looks good on them if you do well. That's by no means to take away from the help she's giving you. I'm just letting you know so you don't feel bad about taking advantage of the situation. It's good for everyone if you keep with it!

Best of luck!
