 Eating habits while plateauing.

Hi all, I haven't been on here for a long time. Anyways, I read a little article on plateauing that may be helpful. It said take your weight and multiply it by 11 for ex: 200x11=2200. Those are how many cals you can eat to lose weight. The tip said basically you should eat those cals a day and one day drop them lower for a day or 2 then raise back up. Basically when you hit a plateau, your body has gotten used to the cals you're eating and stops burning fat. What you need to do is keep your body guessing. Eat low cals one day then raise them the next. This keeps the body guessing, but it also says to the body, it's ok to let go of this fat, because I'll have more cals soon. I have experienced severe plateaus and had to do several things to try and break through. One thing I did was to lower my cals to 1200. That worked, but I would never suggest anyone go below 1200 even if you're on a plateau. It's just not healthy. Also, for those who have a significant amount of weight to lose, do it slow. I was frustrated when I saw people losing 100 lbs in less than a year, which is what I needed to lose roughly, and then I saw some horror stories about people losing that much weight so fast. Most people who lost large amounts of weight in a short period, have a lot of sagging skin. I said to myself, I'll take it slow because I don't want any sagging skin! You see a lot having to get surgery to tighten up that skin after they've lost all the weight. That's just not for me. I've been dieting and exercising for 19 months and I have gone from 296lbs to 222. want to get down to 200 by April which is my 2 year mark. I think 22lbs is fairly easy to lose in 4 months, so I'm going to do what I do, and get that last bit off. Hey GymMac!

Derrick,

So you've got no sagging skin after losing 78 pounds? That's encouraging news for us "slow losers." How long were you at 296 before you started seriously removing the weight 19 months ago?

Congratulations on your loss, and continued luck with your program.

Ok, this has nothing to do with plateauing but.......i'm glad to see you came back to check in. I was wondering what happened to you and remember posting a while ago a message for you to see where you were.

I started losing weight immediately when I started my program. I lost 60 pounds in 8 months. At that point is when I started to plateau pretty bad. I did however gain some muscle mass, because I was weight training. I do suggest anyone who isn't weight training to do so. I think it helps fill you out. No, I don't have any sagging skin. I believe it's because of the way I structured my dieting and weight training.

Hi Donna, I'm still around. Actually, you know how you are excited about something and it's always on your brain, well that's when I was always on here. I never stopped my program, I just found some new hobbies (cars) and spent more time on sites dedicated to that. Thanks for asking though.
