I work out on an empty stomache when I wake up. I drink two glasses of water to hydrate myself and I work out alternating between low and high intensity.
I have read articles suggesting to eat before exercising so that your muscle is not burned for energy and to work out at a steady pace to get maximum fat burning benefits. Then I have read articles that suggest to work out on an empty stomache so that you burn fat instead of using the carbs in the food you have eaten and exercise alternating between low intensity and high intensity, back and forth.
Which way is best??

I personally don't think it makes a difference one way or the other.
I think some people find it uncomfortable to work out on a full stomach and then others find they feel weak if they don't eat first.
And the people who say you can burn the food you have just eaten don't know what they're talking about......nothing has been digested yet.
I'm not sure about the low intensity/high intensity, but both are benificial so I don't see why you can't combine them.

Does anyone else have an opinion on how to get the maximum fat burning effect? I would really appreciate some other people's input.

I've read somewhere that you'll burn the same amount of calories regardless of whether you've eaten or not before your workout. Also, if you are exercising on an empty stomach, you'll have less energy, so your exercise is likely to be less intense and you'll get tired quicker - and therefore will burn less fat.
Based on that, it's better to eat before exercising. However, if you eat too much, you are also likely to feel too stuffed/lazy to exercise...
Therefore I would take the middle approach: eat a snack, but not a big meal before your workout. This way you are not too hungry - won't get tired too fast, and not too stuffed to feel heavy.
