Eat all day and all night

Well, to chime in on the "when to eat" debate, personally I feel like eating all day long. I know what I am feeling is not true hunger - it's an emotional thing. We all know this. We all, in the past, indulged this "feeling" and ate like there was no tomorrow. I am "hungry" all of the time so to limit how much I eat is helps me to only eat three meals a day with a snack at night. But to each his own.

My husband has no weight problem and his experience in eating is quite different than mine. He eats when he's hungry. Some days he goes all day long without eating until late in the afternoon. Other days he wakes up hungry and eats in the morning. The pattern is never the same. I believe he only stops and eats on any regular basis because I have prepared the meal. If left on his own I am sure he would not eat three times a day. He says he just doesn't feel hungry enough to eat that often.

So..............there seems to be different opinions on how often to eat and it really does not matter how many times you eat each day as long as you do not "eat more than you burn". Right?

If I could chose a pattern I would not eat all day so that at dinner or in the evening I could really eat what I wanted all at one time. Tried this, can't do it. Just causes me to overeat, so....................three meals and a snack - works best for me.

Yep thats what I was thinking!!
I have done it both ways. Every 2 to 3 hours. Some hours I wasn't hungry but ate anyway then other times I ate and was starving 1 hour later and had to drink a ton of water to tied me over and usually went to bed hungry.
I lost weight this way.

Now I eat more at one time but about the same or less throughout the day. I have been only really hungry passed the calories I have alotted myself only one time. I had water and carrots. I lost weight.

Going 7 hours has happened to me sometimes alot before I was doing this. I would go so long by the time I ate I was ravenous and willing to eat anything and not worry what was in it. I gained weight then.

I have to find what works for me for the long term and stick with that.

Calories in VS. Calories out right??

I think I most agree with Gymmy Mac's post below. In my case, if I ate every time I was hungry--well, that's how I got up to 230 in the first place. Worse yet, in my case, I often have to take medication that increases your appetite, which makes it even less advisable to "eat when you are hungry." On the other hand, if I don't feel hungry at an established meal time (lunch is my main meal of the day), and thus don't eat, I often end up being suddenly starving in the afternoon and eating more than I would have had I had a small meal at lunch.

I'm thinking that maybe everybody's hunger patterns and causes are different, everything from blood sugar to stress, and that people should experiment and see what works for them, while trying to learn to recognize real physical hunger vs. psychologically-related hunger--within reason. Both of the doctors I consult have recommended regular eating patterns, even if the pattern is two regular meals and a tiny snack at odd hours of the day, to keep up blood sugar levels and prevent binging later on. However, they have also said that if there's an occasional day where you just don't want to eat--don't worry about it, do what you want and take advantage of the calorie reduction. The most important things are to maintain both your energy level and your calorie deficit in the way that works best for you. So, take this for what it's worth. It may only apply to me.
