 Dropping pounds, what's going on?

Is it just normal weight fluctuation or should I be concerned?

When I went to the doctor for a checkup on July 12th, I was 207. Now just this past week I've been 203. Ok, 4 pounds in a couple of weeks or so, that's nothing bad there. But I get on the scale this morning and I'm DOWN 2 pounds (to 201) in just one day. Now, when my weight fluctuates, it hovers at one certain weight and goes UP 1 or 2 pounds (or more) but then when it comes back down, it goes back to the certain weight.

I should be jumping for joy because I'm almost to 199 (I haven't weighed less than 200lbs in years) but first of all, I don't count a weight as 'official' until I've seen it consistently for at least 2 days, sometimes 3. Secondly, I'm concerned that I might be losing too fast, even though I'm eating my recommended calories every day, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. But I can tell you that I'm NOT depriving myself. I'm trying to do this slowly and safely.

So, does this sound normal? Does your weight fluctuate DOWN instead of up, making it looked like you dropped a few pounds overnight? I'm even on my period (I finally started) and that's usually the time I GAIN. And I'll sometimes do a little Pilates (workout) but I've been slacking off of that this past week too, I just haven't been motivated enough to exercise. So it's not like I've been 'sweating' it all off.

Any thoughts?

Enjoy, losing 2 lbs overnight may just mean that now that you`re eating healthy and drinking more water you are finally flushing your body of the extra water retention even if you are on your period...I remember that phase...Eventually things will slow down...Your body can fluctuate by as much as 5 lbs, and tomorrow you may see the weight up again..Just keep doing what you`ve been doing ...You`re doing great...G

It's perfectly normal. Weight fluctuations work both ways. Also, didn't you have a week or two where you didn't lose anything, but you should have? Almost always when that happens to me, I lose more than expected within the next couple weeks. Weight loss isn't necessarily a linear process. Whatever it is, enjoy it!

Thanks :)

I've definitely been trying to drink more water. I figured as long as I'm keeping track of my food, I may as well keep track of water as well. So on our note board in the kitchen I have my own special "water box" (as I've named it) and I use the dry erase markers (so I can erase the day before and start over fresh the next) and for each 16oz glass of water I drink, I put a mark in the box. I try to drink at LEAST 6 a day. Yesterday I fell short, though. Some days I just feel so 'waterlogged' that I don't even want to look at it.

Sure did, I've hit a couple of plateaus now. But things eventually get moving again, without really even changing anything except maybe backing off of the calories slightly, but most times I don't even do that. I just continue on with my regular schedule and the weight eventually starts to come off again.

Hey greay idea on the water box.....
I am awful about getting my water in each day and I think I am going to copy your idea and do that on my refridge. Maybe me having to see I am falling short i will WANT to get it all in....

Thanks for a great idea!!!!
