i was watching part of Dr.Phil t.v. show today which dealt with New years resolutions and keeping them.
On the subject of weightloss he had some interesting points.
He said that if you have a weight problem, in a year from now one of two things will happen; you`ll either be weighing more then you do now or you will weight less. He thinks that there is no chance that you will be at the same weight if there is a weight problem....Personally I would rather be at the lower weight so I will keep this point in mind when things get hard.
Then he also mentionned making goals that you can control.
He was saying not to make a goal of losing X amount of weight by X amount of time because that is not something that you can control. Weight(fat)will come off the way it wants to depending on your efforts.
You can`t say how much weigh will or will not come off.
So his point of view is to make a goal that you can control such as I will do cardio work outs X amount of time 3 times per week...Or I will eat better. That is something you can control because you cam make this happen. And if you make that goal happen then the weightloss will eventually happen. he also says that you don`t need a scale to lose weight because it can make you more upset then do good. It`s simple if you are losing weight then your clothes should feel loser, if they stay the same then it`s not a good idea to step on the scale, and if they get tight then you definitly don`t want to step on that scale!! The guest on t.v. would eat at nightime after the kids were in bed because she was lonely cause her husband is away a lot, He says that you must create an environment that helps weightloss if you want to succeed. For example don`t buy the oreos and chips. And don`t think that by not buying that stuff you are punishing the rest of the family because he says that showing your kids good eating habits that will last them and save them the trouble we must put up with is not a punishment. He also says that you can`t just get rid of a bad habit you must replace it with a positve habit in order to stay focus and succeed.
I thought it was quite interesting and that a lot of it made sense, what`s your take? Curious that`s all..G

I love the show as well. I've actually mentioned Dr. Phil on this board in the past. I watched today, I came in late, but got most of what he was saying abooout the weight loss and things really clicked with me. Basically, if you want things to change you have to make them change. It won't happen on it's own.
........I'm really glad someone brought this up (the show) because I found it very helpful.:)

I saw most of it too, and one thing that stuck with me was this..
"Gym memberships don't make you lose weight. USING your gym membership makes you lose weight."
