Is anyone watching that show?
It is so good!
I am following the stories, and I look at his website for the latest info.
Is anyone going to buy his book?
Great tips!

I never watched his show or anything but what I have heard about him so far wasn't very positive. My friend said that he says fat people are lazy and stuff like that. I guess I shouldn't trust rumors but I never heard one positive thing about Dr. Phil. :/

.....I don't know if Dr. Phil makes such blanket statements or not, but people who do assume that all overweight people are only that way only because they are lazy and overeat are wrong, sure, there proablly is a certain percentage of people who are overweight just from overeating and being lazy, but there are many overweight people who are not lazy and lead fairly active and busy lives, and eat normal portions of food, but had gotten overweight from eating too much of the wrong types of food, high-calorie, high-fat processed foods, fast-foods, ect., and once they educate themselves on eating more of the right kinds of foods, lower-calorie, lower-fat foods they lose the excess weight.

I never said I agreed with any of that stuff. I don't think that fat people are lazy or that lazy people are fat.

Which is why it made me sooo mad when I heard Dr. Phil said that. But who knows... it might have been just a rumor.

I don't know much about Dr. Phil or all of what he teaches, but I have found that simply reducing calories and increasing exercise has worked very well for me in taking off the weight, I figure why make it any more complicated than you have to :-)

.....and Ken made a good point to specifically say "Reduce calories intelligently", meaning that the calories you do eat need to be from enough healthy foods so that you still get your minimum daily nutrition requirements.

I don't believe Dr. Phil ever said fat poeple are lazy, he just simply says that if you are fat, you must have a lifestyle to support it. If you all want to take that as meaning "lazy", so be it. I just know that I didn't get fat by exercising and eating right. Doesn't mean I'm lazy either.....Dr. Phil says this about all aspects of life: if you're not happy in your marriage, then you're living a lifestyle to support that, i.e. not getting marriage counseling, not talking it out. If you're in debt financially, then you're living a lifestyle to support that, i.e. shopping all the time, spending too much money. Simply stated; you are where you are in life because of the way you lived it. If you want your life to change, then change your lifestyle.

I don't watch Dr Phil's daily show, but I have been watching the Weight Loss Challenge. I like Dr Phil's "in your face" style. I haven't read his book (I may if I see it at the library); but from what I've seen of it, most of it echoes the conclusions I've come to a couple months ago when I started my program. I believe weight loss and keeping the weight gone is so much more than just counting calories and exercising--it is accepting a brand new, like-you've-never-tried-before lifestlyle.

Having said that, there are some things about the "Challenge" and Dr Phil that I'm not all to crazy about.

First, I know he's in the business of making $$ and I can accept his 9-month infomercial for his book, but I'm suspect about the pills, powders and energy bars I'm seeing. I'm wondering if he's going to incorporate those things into the show--should be interesting.

Second, I wasn't crazy about the "Big Brother" knockoff he did at the house saying he was going to chose 8 out of the 13 and causing these people a lot of undue stress--but I guess that's the price they paid for 9 months of counseling and a free membership to Gold's Gym.

Last, I don't like the "Survivor" knockoff where people can kick someone off the team if they don't comply. The fact that they get to win some type of "prize" in the end, but only if their entire team loses the most weight, smacks of Hollywood who-haa.

But I do enjoy watching the show and have picked up some tips, motivation, and and information I am using in my own program.

I like the book because it deals with why we eat emotionally. That is one of my biggest problems. When I do overeat it is usually because of something going on in my head and not because I just love the food. I am reading the book and I am doing better already with how I see myself. I wonder if that is one of the reasons that I don't feel like eating.
I am thinking that the prizes and challenges are just a way of keeping the audiences interested. Maybe the people doing the challenge also. But, either way, I think Dr. Phil is to the point and he says things that I am sure would make me cry. Actually sometimes I cry because he could be talking to me..............Sure, dieting is easy if you don't have any kind of emotional baggage that causes you to eat, but if you have issues that keep you going back to food for comfort then you have to go somewhere else for help.

Smiles, Renee :)

As for Dr. Phil, I like his in your face style which can be intimidating especially when the words hit home, but perhaps the "Anonomous groups" saying sums how I feel about advice/information "take what you need and leave the rest" Sometimes you never know who or what will turn the switch on.Jenn wrote:
