Dr. Phil and Oprah show today...
Author: simply trying

Altough I`m not a regular fan of either show I did catch a bit from both the Dr.Phil and the Oprah show today and they both had some weightloss success stories.....It was inspirational. On the Oprah show she did a special reward show for people who had lost major weight...The one guy who lost over 300 lbs was given a porshe......I taught that was quite cool...
As for the Dr.Phil show it was an uptdate from past guests and my heart just about broke when he showed the story of this kid Matthew who was severely overweight. The sad part was that his sister who was herself very overweight was saying how she was embarrased to be seen with him...Anyhoo just wanted to share that bit....G

interestingly, i have heard oprah went to dr phil for a bit of advice on losing weight....dr phil was rather forward by saying the obvious, that oprah had to do this that and the other to lose weight or she will end up a diabetic (it runs in her family) and apparently she had a bit of a spit about it....i call it tough love....anyway i have seen these sucess stories and they are great...i am sus of dr phils ability to help people, sometimes with serious mental issues, in the space of 10 minutes though...he tells them what to think and behave sometimes and a switch in the head doesnt go on and off like that...just my opinion that his show is entertaining, but really not too much help to he seriously unstable who partake on the show.

As far as Oprah goes...STOP eating you fat broad!! Look i'm kinda just kidding but, i also feel that Oprah, and other rich celebrties have little to bitch about. Oprah has more money than God. If i, or most of you here had that kinda jack to basically hire the BEST personal trainers, or cooks to have them eat right, we would never be overweight. But Oprah, who has gone up & down in her weight for years has clearly stated her absolute love for fatty foods and sweet potato pie. It's certainly okay to have these things once in a while, but, if i, or any of you didn't have to work 50 odd hours per week in some job, or take mounds of time caring for a family, and we had that kind offree time and money, couldn't we find the time to workout alot more ? Oprah really has NO excuse. I'm not saying i don't feel forher, but to me, Oprah's failures are a result of trying to lose weight for ALL the wrong reasons. Oprah after losing weight has always taken heart on how great she looks after the fact, and that she can now wear a certain size dress oroutfit. Those are NOT the reasons that she, or ANYONE else should embark on a weight-loss program. It should ALWAYS be about bettering your individual health, and NOT about looking good, or a certain way just because of what society says someone should weigh. Oprah needs to stop paying attention to these idiots, and accept that maybe her genetics will prevent her from ever being a " Healthy " size 7, or whatever she continually wants to be. There is nothing wrong in being a size 10, IF that is more your natural size. Just try concentrating on being the healthiest and strongest size 10 that you can be. For most of us, just trying to find 3 hours a day for say 3 to 4 days a week to workout is stressful enough. But Oprah, who has millions, if not Billions of dollars and free time to workout everyday and NOT worry about the bills, or taking care of any kids, or finding the time to prepare proper meals, well she should NOT have any excusses for being overweight. Her only issue is that she just can't control her over-induldging.

I wish her well for her health sakes. As i do all of you, and myself :-)

Doing my best,

I also share some of the views you have about Oprah regarding her weight problem insomuch as I had a hard time swallowing any of the "advice" she gave out during the time she was on her post-optifast "health kick" years (i.e., selling journals, personal chef cookbooks, etc.).

Although I feel her pain when it comes to her weight problem, I found it hard to buy into the advice she gave out during her last go at living a healthy lifestyle. Let's face it, I doubt any of us have a personal gourmet chef, on-call fitness trainer, a home gym that would rival Gold's, and availability to unlimited spa treatments. Any of her advice just fell on deaf ears since I just can't relate to someone on her level.

I have much more respect for the people she brings to her show who have removed the weight on their own without the benefit of an army of specialists and well-salaried support teams at their beck-and-call. It is through those people where I find my inspiration--and by bringing those people into the spotlight, Oprah has done more to inspire me that way, than through any of her words, books, or advice.

You must have heard the phrase"money doesn`t buy happiness" and although she can hire the best cooks and trainers she still has to do the work herself...I think food can become an addiction and if you don`t have the motivation to kick the addiction well....:D G

I personaly think money or no money is not an excuss to be over weight.
Time is not also an excuss. Nobody (rich or poor) should have excuss. All i know is that evwen with your little money, you can make alot out of it.
You don't need to go to gym, you can burn more calories in you room. I went to gyn for a year and this year I just got wtp dvds and I have lost 8 pounds in all. I thought that is too small until I got to this board and got my thinking right. I spent almost 500 in gym last year and now I got the wtp for 35, and I know by the end of the year I will be loosing not less than 52 pounds. Money or time is not an issue determination and motivation are the right keys the. I work 5 hours a day and I also go to schgool, married and with all the stress but with wtp I still find time to do my execise everyday.
Love you

Right on! Stop picking on Oprah and other people who SEEM to have an easier life. Different people are overweight for different reasons. If you want to lose weight nothing should stop you. You shouldn't lose respect for someone just because they have more advantages than you; it is like reverse discrimination. We are all human and have feelings. (Didn't mean to be preachy, but I was outraged that someone would say so many biased and hurtful things about Oprah.)
