Hi Friends,
I haven't posted in a long time, but I do check the board when I get a chance. I was wondering if any one watches Dr Phil and is going to get involved in his weight loss challenge? I really like his show and I'll probably watch as I keep "workin on" getting my booty back in shape. I haven't removed any more weight, but I haven't been eating as well as I need to for that to happen. Funny how that works huh? Have a great day!!

YES I am going to get involved in Dr.Phils weight loss challenge. I am sick and tired of being over weight. I have been reading post here since April and have not participated in any discussions.... Dr.Phil does bring up some great issues on why people are over weight and I do think for myself it is more than excessive food/ lack of exercise as to why I have gained 100lbs since 1988.

I'm not a big fan of Dr. Phil or his style. Larry North was on a radio show I listen to last week going off about Dr. Phill's new book. Larry North apparently is the one that got Dr. Phil's wife and or family in shape not too long ago. Just seeing his not so slim self on the cover of his new book is very discouraging. He is not exactly the picture of health.

Not to knock anyone that likes him or will participate in his challenge...whatever works - works!!

I feel, and always have, that Dr. Phil's ideas and thoughts are not all that revolutionary. They're simply common sense! And evidently, we need to hear someone preach common sense, because his popularity speaks for itself.
It's all about what works for you though, I couldn't agree with that more!

I have to admit that I find Dr Phil kind of refreshingly honest and have decided to see what his book has to offer.

I am not expecting him to have some miracle method to weight loss and would be disappointed really if it turns out he does suggest going against the logically science-based approach to weight loss (meaning calories in being less than calories burned). But what I am hoping his book does is help me to motivate myself and look at what I am doing wrong (as I am obviously doing something wrong).

I am only a few pages into the book but am finding it promising. I will keep y'all posted.

btw, one of the points he makes early on in his book is that you don't necessarily have to look like a model or movie star to be healthy and at a good weight. He does seem a little soft around the middle himself but he apparently jogs several miles a day and eats well - I find that almost more trusting than being preached at by some hot, buff, look-at-me type.

Cheers,

Niki

I have been watching Dr Phil's show about Weight Loss and I have found it interesting...although there appears to be some "showboating" going on with the 13-Fat-People-In-a-House "Big Brother" knockoff.

I'm not too sure what his intentions are with only selecting 8 of the 13 people to go on with his program; or the time he "treated" the people who got up early in the morning to a day out while the people who got up later had to cook and clean up; these may just be tactics to add some "entertainment" value to the show, but they seem a bit cruel to me. I'm sure he'll have to explain these stunts sometime later in the series.

Having said all of that, I like Dr Phil's "in your face" style! Having been born and raised in the Northeast during the 50s and 60, our parents, teachers, and adults "told it like it was" to us kids and didn't mince words or try to address "feelings." Regardless of what you see on TV Land shows, parents of that era were NOT like June and Ward Clever! So Dr Phil and Judge Judy's style appeals to my inner child. If you ease up on me or start feeling sorry for me--Yo, I'll walk all over you!

I'll be following this show to see how it turns out. The advice he gives in his 7 steps pretty much echo what I decided months ago when I decided to remove this weight once and for all. I don't intend on buying the book, but if I see it at the library I'll probably read it.
