I just bought Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution book last night. I've read about 50 pages of it and I am feeling so motivated!
As much as he can tick me off when I see him on TV, I know he's a sensible, direct person, and that's why Ibought the book. So far it is as honest as it gets, and his catch phrase "get real with yourself" is really sinking in with me. I think I get it now. Losing weight has more to do with than just a number or a jean size.
Have any of you read it or used it for your weight loss? Has it helped you?
I guess for other "newbies" like myself, I would say that it's really helping me to take a new look at myself and WHY I want to lose weight. It's also shown me how to do it in a way that's permanant (and I've only read 50 pages)!
I think this one is for real. : )

I have not read his book, but have heard good things about it. It seems that you are enjoying it too. However, I do know from being in management for many years that no one, or nothing external to you, can motivate you long-term. Motivation is from within, it is that little voice inside your head pushing you further when you're on the treadmill. It is that little nagging voice that says "whooa there fella, that portion is a little large" when you're at the dinner table.
What is so great about this site is that we all know what we need to do, in fact I would bet that the majority of people know the truth - it is a game of energy in versus energy out. There is no magic, the key is motivating ourselves to accomplish our goal of eating less and exercising more. That means we have to look deep within ourselves to find the reason we want to change our life style.
If Dr. Phil helps you develop that self-motivation, then great. Just realize that it is not Dr. Phil that is helping you. It is you helping yourself. You are in control, you have the power!

I think that any inspirational source that reminds you to stay grounded in this process and to maintain body/health awareness is worthwhile. If Dr. Phil gave you some good insights, that's cool. I'll check it out, too. Thanks for the recommendation.
I like to read women's fitness mags, myself. Some of it is fluff, but I get alot out of the success stories and physical challenges. Plus, they are a good pick-me-up. I could be reading People or Vogue at the salon for kicks, but Self has the fashion and make up tips for fun, along with exercise and diet inspration.
Good Luck!

I think I have realized that. But what I've read in this book has helped me to learn more about myself and why I eat like I do and how I can help myself change.
It's very interactive. I've learned a lot about myself when it comes to eating today. I never realized that I eat the most when I'm BORED. I guess this book is more about changing the inside of ourself while chinging the outside-- provoking lifestyle changes instead of a particular diet.
I am enjoying it. : ) I'm also so yound though, that I may not know myself as well as others or even like yourself. I didn't ralize that I eat when I'm bored or angry, but I do. It's given me lots of suggestions to expend my energy in other places than eating.
But yes, I do see that true change has to come from within. I feel ready!

I like Self magazine, too. I read it when my face isn't buried in Cosmo or Glamour (My guilty indulgences)
I plan on subscribing Self... mostly because I'm not too interested in my subscription from Shape. I get bored so easily and all they headline is diet, diet, diet... I'm SO not interested.
Like I said, Dr. Phil's book is awesome for me. I read another 75 pages today and I'm just learning so much from myself. I hope there are people who are getting the same insight from it as I am...
