I have been reading a lot of recent posts lately and of course the one about the Atkins diet really sent me spinnin.
We all have our take on all these diets but we should take these thoughts at a different angle. Luna posted earlier about her epiphany on realizing that we need to have a "life style change" rather than a diet. I so agree.
Take all that money you are using on pills and potions and Atkin reciepe books and do this:
Go to a dietatian and have bloodwork done. Sit down and discuss your lifestyle and your blood type and what foods you are allergic to. We are often allergic to many foods (often our favorite) that we consume on a regular basis thus keeping us fat and without any energy to exercise or take out the trash. If you go to a dietatian and figure out what foods are healthy and healing to YOUR body, you will find that you will lose weight and feel great.
I have recently talked with my anatomy professor whom is a Naturapath and a dietitian. She is going to work with me to figure what MY body needs specifically to get me on a healthy track.
Just an idea. I think it would be so much better than all those diets out there.
while I applaud you all for putting your mind to things and doing what makes sense to you, please think about it all logically.
I am sorry, but the Atkins diet is horriable for you. Our bodies are not designed to have that much protein intake-especially on a daily basis. Our bodies produce quite a bit of protein. We only need small amounts (depending on if you are weight training however and then you would up your protein a wee bit).
We were designed to eat vegetables and roots. not grains and not much meat. We only started eating meat when the ice ages came about and we had no vegetables and the roots were too far in the ground and solid ice. We then started going after wild game -thus moving us across the continents but now i am going into history so I will shut up now.
Basically just wanted to say -good job, good luck, but think logically about this all. it should be life change not a quick fix. believe me, I want these 30 -40 pounds gone tomarrow, but i am going to bite my lip and dig in to being healthy first.

I have to agree with you 100%. I think we sometimes forget how long it took for us to get this weight on and just how long it is going to take to get it off. The logical, sensible thing for almost anyone is to eat a balanced healthy diet. Not too much of one thing and too little of another. We cannot be healthy in that way. Face it, don't we really KNOW what is good for us and makes us feel good and what is NOT good. Sometimes we don't want to face the truth there (myself included!). I think the key here is thinking "healthy eating" not diet. Me and my weight loss buddy NEVER say the word diet to each other. We are making healthy life style changes. If you don't do this for life...that weight is coming right back on!! I am speaking from experience! Good thoughts and I support them!

yes gymmachine, you are correct. I did misquote my professor (but don't tell her. hehe) Anyway, what I really wanted to empasis was how bad eating so much protein is. I really want Amanda to be happy with her wieghtloss and what she has accomplished. I just worry about people going on these crazy diets and the fact that they aren't serving themselves well when they are hurting their bodies in the long run. Just be safe and logical. thats all.

My Mom has a book called "Eat right for Your Blood Type" - not sure of the author, and when she and my aunt both went to the dietician before starting there battle, everything in that book corresponded to what the dietician said and then some. My Mom swears by it, and emphasizes the importance of seeing a dietician and bloodwork as well....She is down 60lbs. since last April...she also now excercises regularly -- again a lifestyle change...I am constantly reading new info, diets, excercise books, checking out videos etc. You have to take the best of everything that works for you and go with it.

Well if you want the muscle mass of a frog ( or even a gnome), you'll get by on a wee bit of protein. Where are the articles supporting your claims? It matter's...

Take your pick...some work better than other's and are actually healthy. Wish you people would get things in perspective. We're talking about "balance" and getting a good mixture of all three macronutirents and not overdoing stuff... exactly what do YOU suppose cave men ate? We would not be HERE if it wern't for those guy's eating "protein" or do you think they had market gardens back then or something.
