Hi Everyone!
Believe it or not I have actually completed a home gym sorta. lol. I just bought a Stationary Bike. Which is in addition to the Power Rider, Treadmill, Stair Stepper, Trampoline, Free Weights, Ab Roller, Ab Cruncher, Exercise Ball, The Complete Windsor Pilates Series, Belly Dance Tape, Fat Burning For Dummies, 8 Minute Abs, Kathy Smith's Pilates for Abs, Tae-Bo Basic and Advanced Tapes, Kathy Smith Cardio Saver Workout, Legs of Steel 2000 ... and I believe that is it ... haha
My QUESTION is .... I went to one of those sites that calculate how many calories you are burning during 30 min segments on various types of equipment. Well I noticed that riding a bike (sitting on your tush and moving arms) burns 269 calories if you are doing it moderately while walking only burns 154 at a 3.5 pace. Both these settings are just right for me at the moment but I don't understand how sitting down doing something requires more energy. Just curious!
Thx !!
Take Care

I don't understand that either, on the machines at the gym I burn way more on the treadmill than the bike for the same amount of time. I don't know?

how hard are you pushing it on the bike? its impossible to measure - we all burn cals at different rates - use it as a guide as a traget to beat next time your on the machine -
Both machines use different actions - different setting, its a totally different exercise - readings are going to vary greatly - like i said use the numbers as a guide to beat next time - heres the trick - try to beat the previous cals burned at lets say 20 minutes for example and do it within that 20 mins...ie, say you burn 250 cals in 20 minutes on the bike - the following week you go on, aim for 260 cals in the same time frame - this forces you to push your body bit by bit and before you know it, not only are you fitter, you have probably lost weight (diet depending ofcourse)

My treadmill has a calorie counter on it as well. I don't even pay attention to it anymore. It cannot possibly be accurate! The heavier you are, the more calories you'll burn from an exercise. You cannot take say a 150 lb man, and a 250 lb man, have them do the exact same workout on a treadmill, and think they burn the same amount of calories. The 250 lb man, is gonna burn more calories! So, unless you have one that you can put your weight in it, I would only use it as a guide.

WOW!!! I want to come work out @ your house lol! I am actually kinda bumed right now as my treadmill is busted. My hubby tried to fix it and just caused a worse problem...gotta love him ;) The belt part is all crinkled up so we need a new one...luckly it was time to switch my routine anyway.

That would definately make him a good man ... lol ... I tried my hardest and I can't go for more than 5 minutes straight on this bike! It's a killer .. It definately feels harder than the treadmill. However, it's kinda hard on my knees though ... haha .... I probably would work out more if I had someone to workout with me. I'm trying to recruit my sister-in-law in to working out with me ... haha .... we'll see how that goes! ...
Take Care!!!
