Until a person is individually ready to lose weight and keep it off then nothing that is said here in this group will ever matter much anyway. However when you do finally reach your enough is enough point. Then this site and these people are excellent for keeping you motivated. Hope it happens for you all. A friend...

I could not agree with this more. I was once the person that always expressed how much I need to lose weight and tried maybe for a day or two only to give up. Finally, I said to myself that I will lose weight and started eating better and exercising. It's funny b/c I see this girl I work with doing the same thing. She and another co-worker got memberships at the local gym and have not been going as originally planned. I showed her the site fitday since she wanted to start listing everything she ate but I still saw her drinking regular Mt. Dews, eating cake and eating other high calorie meals. Yet she stills comes to me saying how she's not losing weight. I want to tell her something but figured once I feel she is really serious I will then talk with her.

Agree 100%...
Sometimes I get mad at my husband for not saying the right things to spure me on or help me over a hurdle & then I remember it's got to come from me. When I first started my "journey" I knew that...sometimes I've forgotten & then it comes back to me and instead of being a burden, it's empowerment. It reminds me that I'm neither helpless nor a victim.

This is so true, but it can be so hard to watch, especially when a person's health is involved. I'm watching an extreme situation right now--a friend of mine had breast cancer about 1-1/2 years ago. She is only 49, her mother died of this disease, and her brother has had colon cancer. She is about 40-50 pounds overweight. I just found out that she has been putting off taking tamoxifen, which is just about as close to a wonder drug in this situation as you can get, until she can "lose a few pounds," because she doesn't want to increase her chance of getting a stroke (a problem which also runs in her family--some people get all the good genes). But as far as I can tell, she is not dieting. This has apparently been going on for over a year. This woman is very stubborn and independent, and there is absolutely nothing I can do apart from giving her some gentle prods in the right direction and slipping in positive stories about my own weight loss experience (although shaking her and slapping her until she came to her senses did occur to me). Sorry to use this thread to vent, but I just found about about this last week, and it struck a chord.
