I have been walking with my 3 kids, (pushing the toddler in his stroller) for about a mile every nite. That part I'm pretty happy about. I'm wondering if pushing the stroller is enough added resistance to make a difference. Also weeded two pretty big (and very weedy) flower gardens yesterday, and spent 3 hours cleaning out the garage today. Wondering if this kind of work is enough to help in getting to my daily exersize goal, or not?

what is your daily exercise goal? u dont have to exercise to lose weight...if your on a calorie deficit u will still lose weight...remember all movement is good movement because movement burns cals...so yeah i would say u used up quite a few cals when u did all this...i think its important to be active if your not doing cardio and that fits the bill what u do so tis all good!

Just for kicks, go to caloriesperhour.com. They actually have an entry for "Baby stroller-pushing" and you can see how it compares to just walking.

You bet it does. Everything counts. Activity increases your metabolism, especially the aspect of what energy source your body uses - stored fat, as long as you are in a calorie defecit. You won't get big muscles pushing a stroller, but if fitness is the ability to do work, your body will adapt to whatever you give it, by improving function. It is easy to increase your activity level by 10% or more through little day to day activities. Washing and waxing a car, house work, and gardening are vigorous enough to be classified as moderate exercise. I do a lot of things willingly now just knowing that the old me would not have bothered.
