I had my routine 6 month check-up and the doctor is amazed at the weight I lost and also keeping off (I had most of the weight off at my last visit).
The doctor said I was their only patient so far to lose all the weight they needed to lose, not that other patients have not lost weight, but to have lost all the weight they need to lose and keep it off. My wife should be next, she has lost about 100 lbs and is determined to reach her goal also so she will be the doctor's next patient to lose all the weight they need to lose.
My check-ups have been so good that the doctor told me to schedule the next visit for a year from now instead of 6 months !
She said while I didn't need to lose any more weight, I still should keep up with at least 30 minutes a day on the treadmill 4 days a week, just for the sake of maintaining good health, not to lose more weight, so I may have to adjust my calories up some if weight starts coming off again :-)
(I do a brisk walk about 4.5 mph on the treadmill so that in about 25 - 30 minutes I walk about 2 miles)
......after all those years of hearing doctors tell me "you know you really should lose some weight" I finally made up my mind to do it and am so glad I did, thank God for good health and determination !

Thanks, I was encouraged when I first started by seeing how others had lost a lot of weight so I know that does help, it makes you feel like if they did, then I can too !
Also, while we still get a low-fat Subway sub occasionally, we know also make our own version at home, we use whole grain sugar-free bread (lightly toasted) (only 50 calories a slice) low-fat ham slices (25 to 30 calories a slice) (fat-free mayo or low-fat sweet onion dressing) and lots of lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, green pepper, mild peppers, ect. (all low calorie !) and you can pile up those veggies to make a filling sandwich that is still low calorie. (I also put jalpeno peppers on mine, my wife sticks with just the mild peppers) One thing that helped me stay on my weight loss program was to find low-calorie versions of foods so that I could eat enough to still feel full but with a lot less calories :-)
Stay encouraged and determined and you can do it !

Congrats, Gary! What a great feeling!
I had an interesting experience with my internist. When I was overweight, she was accustomed to waiting until I left her office and nearing the receptionist's desk and then poking her head out of her door and shouting "And lose some weight!!" When I showed up again after having lost 75 pounds, she was speechless. She said "How one earth did you do it?" and I said "Eat less, move more." She stared at me a minute and then said, "Well, that's one way, I guess."
And then she ran some blood tests to see if I was sick.
Doctors obviously aren't used to people taking their advice.
Congratulations again! You are probably your doctor's favorite patient now.

Wow - that's fantastic. I love envisioning the day when I can share the same news. You are another one of our "inspiration members."
Now you get to keep it off and prove to yourself that you can do that, too. Stick to your guns and enjoy your good health.
Many congrats.

Gary, that is awesome! I'm sure your doctor is telling people who need to lose weight that he has a patient that not only lost the weight but is keeping it off. So you might be an inspiration to others and not even know it. I would be holding my head up so proud after that visit. And on another note do you know that every time I eat one of those low cal bologna or cheese sandwichees I think of you lol! Thanks for the info on those, I look forward to your low cal tips.

Hey Gary,
You are definitely an inspiration to me. The pictures on your web site are amazing!!!!
Question.... When you do eat at Subway, what exactly do you order? I have looked up the calories on the internet and their white bread appears to have the least amount of calories. I always get mine without the cheese and with all of the veggies and also turkey of course. Don't they use low-fat mayo? They claim to add only 50 calories with mayo. Just curious and congratulations again on maintaining your weight loss!

I don't know if they have low-fat mayo or not, but when we get ours we get it without mayo, but with a little of their "sweet onion" sauce which does not add too many calories, we don't get cheese either because they don't use the fat-free cheese, and I also avoid the olives because they are high in calories, but I get most of the other veggies and even ask for extra lettuce and tomato, I figure the money they save on me not getting cheese they can give me some extra veggies :-)
