Sorry for asking this but must ask - do anybody here go by the doctor's scale or their scale at home? I am asking because I am always thinking of the doctors scale and everytime I step on my scale I am always adding 5 on my weigh. So for me to weigh at 110 on the doctor's scale...my scale must say 105. That sure is depressing to think of because that means I have to lose 20 pounds. BUT if I go on my scale alone...I have only 15 pounds to lose...boy! this is sure getting very depressing. Well, I will not think about it. I will concentrate on losing 5 pounds for now.

Well, as I am hardly ever on my doctor's scale, I go by my scale at home.
Here's a funny thing, though.....
Toward the beginning of my diet, I went to the doctor. I had to go back to see him (follow-up appointment) last week. Both times I was weighed. Same scale, same conditions, type of clothing, time of day - everything pretty much the same.
AND I WEIGHED EXACTLY THE SAME BOTH TIMES.
We're talking about almost a month's difference here, and in that time period between visits, I had lost about 8 lbs. altogether (as part of my total 11 lb. loss).
My weight loss is monitored on both my at-home scale (digital), and a scale at work (also digital). Every Friday I weigh-in "officially" - first at home, and then at the scale at work. Both times the weight matches. And each week, the weight has been going down.
So why, on the doctor's scale (which is one of those sliding-weights things), does my weight stay the same?
Curiouser and curiouser......

Why would you add 5 pounds to your weight when you weigh at home? I don't think it matters WHAT scale as long as you are tracking your weight on the SAME scale, same time every time. I go by the what I weigh on Friday mornings first thing when I get out of bed after going to the restroom and in my light PJ's.

I had to laugh when I read how you weigh on Friday. I also wait til after I use the restroom, but I strip down butt naked and blow all my air out. I guess it's kind of silly huh?

Its just funny or sad depening on how you want to look at it. I've weighed 96 or 98 pounds most of my life. Sometimes I would drop to 94 then back to 96 then 94 and someitmes 98, ususally staying at 96. But my point is I had the flucuation and it was no big deal. I could weigh myself soaking wet, after a bit meal, fully clothed, holding my purse and still only get up to 98.
NOW - I still have that very same flucuation but it's so depressing to see the scale for from 130 to 132 up to 134 and back to 130 etc...etc...
AND I only get on the scale as described before...huh to get older. I've actually thought about blowing all the air out, but I just don't have the energy at 7AM. :) LOL!

If I may ask, how old are you, Michelle?
And what weight are you at now?

I'm 35 and today I weigh 132. I'm 5'1 and have a small to medium frame. I'd like to get to 105 or somewhere close. I think might look OK at 110.

I use my scale as a true weight. last time I was @ the dr office and it read 12lbs heavier. Now normaly I think the dr type scales are more accurate, but only if they are adjusted regularly. Who knows how often they do that. Also, think of all the people who stand on it every day.
A friend of mine has a dr type scale, and I used it one morning and it read the same as my scale. I think my dr scale is wrong and will happily go by the smaller # :)

Michelle - well, the reason I add 5 to my weigh is because everytime I go to the doctor it is always 5 more pounds on my scale. I can weigh at 123 right now (at my scale) but if I went to my doctor's scale I can easily weight at 128 pounds...I do not know if it has anything to do having your clothes on. As for weighing myself...I do it first thing in the morning when I get up butt naked.
Amy - Thank you so much for telling me about the scale at the doctor's...I guess I will just stick to my scale and be happy what it says.
