I was wondering how many people here have lost weight without counting calories? Have you lost a good amount of weight and kept it of without counting calories? Or did you count calories until you reached your goal weight and then stopped counting. Or never counted at all?
Thanks.

Joan, Joan, Joan,
You've been here long enough to know that we all count calories -- both in and out. That is the only sure way to lose weight.

I have to count calories. I couldn't think of any other way of eating. I used to even hate the thought, but now it's second-nature to me. Adding up what I eat helps to keep me balanced and focused.
However I'm sure there are people who can lose weight by not counting their calories, but these are probably people who started OUT counting and have it down to a science now.
Editing to add that another reason I use fitday is it not only counts my calories but shows me how much protein I'm eating, how many carbs and how much fat. I stay UNDER 30% of my total calories from fat per day and UNDER 10% of that is saturated. Fitday keeps me balanced by 'telling' me that I've had too much of this for the day or not enough of that. If I've had too much of one thing, I back off of it the rest of the day. If I haven't had enough of that, I eat more of it at my next meal or incorporate it into a snack.
I, personally, need to know if I've had too many calories or not enough or too much fat or too many carbs, etc.

I lost over 90 pounds before I started counting calories. To lose weight you have to eat fewer of them, not count them. Counting calories is a tool that helps to eat fewer calories, not the end goal.
When I started out it was obvious I was eating way too much. It was pretty easy to eat less without counting calories when you are eating 3500 Calories a day.
As I kept eating less and less it eventually got to the point where I found counting calories useful. In particular there were some foods like fruit that had more calories than I thought and some like lean meat that had fewer than I suspected. Counting calories helps me make choices that result in my eating less.
You do not have to count calories to lose weight. Monitor your weight and if you are not losing weight in the long term eat less. Just make sure you know what "less" is.
