Do message boards help keep people motivated?

Hi!

My name is Cynthia Bane, and I’m a faculty member in the department of psychology at Denison University in Granville, OH. My bio can be found on Denison’s web site: http://www.denison.edu/psych/profbios/bane.shtml

I’m conducting a study to examine how message boards like this one might help people reach their behavior change goals. Melanie has given me permission to post some information about it on this board (Thanks, Melanie!!).

I’m conducting a survey of people who contribute to and/or read weight management message boards. The survey consists of questions that will help me to describe the final sample of respondents I get (e.g., age, race, gender), questions about perceptions of health and fitness, questions about perceptions of others’ health and fitness, and questions about perceived support for weight loss attempts. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete.

This survey has been approved by the human subjects committee at Denison University. Participation is completely anonymous and responses are completely confidential. Respondents do not provide any identifying information. If you are over the age of 18 and would like to participate, you can find the survey at the following address:

http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?SDYS0KEY1YXWTSDFHQXC8SG0

If you do participate, please respond only once.
If you have questions about this research, please contact me at bane@denison.edu. I'd love to hear from you!

Many thanks,
Cynthia Bane, Ph.D.

That's understandable! I've been a member of a lot of message boards myself, and I know how annoying SPAM is! Thanks for participating!

Best regards,
Cynthia
