 Diet Fizzy Drinks

Hello

A friend of mine recently told me I shouldn't be drinking diet fizzy drinks. Can anyone tell me why and if it is really that bad. I drink quite a lot of Slimline tonic and Slimline Bitter Lemon if I go to the pub or out Clubbing as an alternative to alchohol thinking I am doing the right thing! What on earth am I meant to drink as still water isn't very interesting on a night out. Fresh Orange Juice may be very good for you but it does still contain quite a few calories and I would get through maybe 8-10 drinks in one evening.

HELP!

Jenny

Hi Jeeny,

The low cal sodas and little fizzy British drinks (I LOVE real bitter lemon) are very low in calories, so I don't think your pal could be talking about that. I agree that pubbing and clubbing with your mates on nothing more than tap water would be carrying things a bit far (!!!) I'm originally from Leeds, and it has GREAT night life, where are you??? I'm only guessing, but many people seem to worry about all the artificial sweeteners in the diet drinks (the Food and Drug administration here says that Aspertame is safe, regardless of the Internet scares about it.) In addition, diet drinks tend to be a bit sweeter than the real thing, since artificial swweteners are sweeter than sugar, and I do think that drinking a lot of them might perpetuate your taste for sweeet things! I don't drink them at all, and that's because I am too fond of sweet things (gummy candies -- love sour worms and sour bears -- and cookies are my downfall), and I am trying hard to lose my sweet tooth, along with my extra poundage! I know that you love to go pubbing and clubbing with your mates (who doesn't at your age...oh to be in England), and I really don't see that there's much else low calorie in a British pub that you can drink, so I would stick to the low cal Bitter lemon too. In answer to a question you asked earlier, YES, of course I miss you all! I miss the people, the places, and the food. I don't like American peas and baked beans, so my husband drives a long way out of his way to buy me cans of Batchelor Bigga Marowfat peas, and HP beans for my beans on toast (which I have taught my American born kids to eat!) I've been here since the mid-80s, but I love to come home, and bring the kids and my husband there once every 2 years! My husband is a Chinese from Taiwan, and his family is all there, so we go to Taiwan on the years we don't come to UK...alternate the two places so that the kids can spend time with family. They speak Eglish with a Brit accent that they got from me, and speak Chinese (Mandarin) with their daddy's Taiwan accent! We have no afmily in the United States, so we LOVE it when people come to visit...friends, family, strangers off the street so long as they bring me some Radox for my bathtub, or bring my husband some bits of Taiwan stuff!! HeY Jenny, if you come, bring pink and blue Radox (I'm not fond of the green since I don't want to smell like a pine forrest)!!!!! Have a great day over there...it's been raining a lot in Leeds and Harrogate, so hope it's dry where you live. Cheers, Dee
