 Diet Cola
Author: Jennifer Beauson

Hey Again-
I read somewhere, I believe it was actually on the internet, that Diet Cola products contain Aspartame, which actually causes weight gain, particularly to the lower half of the body. But that seems really odd. I was just wondering if what I read was true or not, because if it is, it looks like I am going to have to kick that cola! (No!!!)

I've never personally experienced this.

I haven't experienced any weight gain from Diet cola. In fact the opposite is true as you are not adding the calories from regualr soda.

HOWEVER, what I have noticed is you retain water more than if you drank just water becuase you are taking in extra sodium. The key is mix it up. Make sure you drink water during the day as well

I have not experienced this either... I stopped drinking regualr coke in January... and since then have lost 28 pounds... this is not only due to diet coke...but... I was drinking 1000-1500 calories a day JUST IN COKE....so... if you use this as a crutch to help you make your way to drinking more water and such... then I say go ahead. Just make sure you make the goal to put water in place of the diet coke... eventually.

 Not true

This is not true.

If you Google around you will eventually find some sites that claim artificial sweetners will cause your body to store food as fat, causing weight gain. This makes no sense. If you eat more than you burn your body will always store the excess as fat. If you burn fewer your body has to burn fat. Drinking diet soca is not going to change this.

 Sodium

Remember the days when diet coke used to have gobs of sodium? One 12 ounce can only has 40mg of sodium these days, not bad. I've never encountered the water gain from the soda. Now...from other things yes. Just one slice of wheat bread has 230mg of sodium. Make sure to check the packages of frozen meat items, some are much higher in sodium than others (especially chicken).

If you get the Food lion brand Diet Cola it does not pertain aspartame! I do believe that it is sweetined with splinda....but I do know that it doesn't have Aspartame in it!

Thanks!
The information is great to knoW! I think, from this point, I will limit myself in the cola department, and drink more water. I don't think I'll give up Cola completely, though. DIet cola, I mean.

Your more than welcomed! I am drinking some, but I drink more water now than anything!! We got something that will filter the water and it taste really good now!!

Hey I have a question. What do you all think about two eggs, two sausages & one dry toast? The reason I ask is because this is what I have had today, and I'm afraid I don't know what normal is any more! Is that a normal meal? I USED to eat 4 or 5 eggs, 6 or 7 sausages & two dry toast....but I DON'T do that any more!!!

If diet cola made you gain weight I would be the size of Texas. I drink a lot, and I mean a lot, of diet Dr. Pepper (caffiene free) every day. I think that is hog wash! Just my two cents.

Do they make caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper????? wow... long name. My co worker gave me some of her regular diet Dr. Pepper the other night.. and man... now that is what I seem to be craving all the time lately. I don't want to have a lot of caffeine though... have finally gotten my GERD under control and don't want to go back to that and regular bouts of IBS.

I don't think they do. I haven't really looked at that one cause we don't drink Diet Dr Pepper around here.

Yes, they do. It can be tricky to find but in Oklahoma I find it at Wal-Mart and Homeland. I can't have alot of caffiene so I drink this all the time. It is quite yummy!!

2 eggs, 2 sausages and a piece of dry toast.

Ok let's figure 1 slice of white bread toasted..about 70 calories.

2 sausages, if you was wise turkey links I'll assume...132 for the two. Pork is easily 100 calories higher.

2 eggs will be about 250

so I guessamate you took in around 600 calories if you ate pork sausages. Around 500 if you went the turkey route.

by contrast..say you had cup of egg beaters with some diced tomatoes, green peppers, onion, a little salt and pepper made into scrambled eggs or an omlette..That would be around 150 calories.

As far as normal, I don't think 600 for breakfast is that bad for this reason, that first meal kicks up your body when it wakes from it's fasting mode while you sleep. It will give you the energy during the day and I've found if you eat breakfast, it's alot easier to handle the craving for food in the day cause you won't have one quickly.

So, switch to turkey sausage and see about using egg beaters instead of whole eggs
