I personally drank diet coke for over a year. I LOVED it, however I recently quit drinking it due to dizziness and some other weird stuff going on. Ihad heard that these things could have been linked tothe aspartame in the diet coke. So, i quit, and I can not tell you how much better I feel. Like a new person really. I also was on a plateau for like 4 months and when i quit i started losing again. Just my personal experience. Thought I would share.

I drank so much Pepsi. And when I switched to Diet Pepsi, I ended up losing 5 pounds. So, it is worth giving it a shot. Also I've heard that there is no aspartame in Diet Pepsi , only other diet soft drinks. I am not sure though, can someone please answer this for me? thanks, Donna

I drink diet sodas too..they are low cal, theres nothin wrong with them...asparteme is safe too, it is media misconception that it is bad for you...the truth is asparteme is broken down in your body very easily - the FDA now approve asparteme...i gave details on this in a post a few months ago, if you wish to read it i would say its just a few pages back....other than that, i drink diet soda and have no problem with weight loss...its all about calories in vs calories expended.

Yes Donna, Diet Pepsi has aspartame in it. Besides water all day, when I eat lunch and dinner, I drink caffeine free Diet Pepsi. From what I have heard recently, aspartame is not bad for you. I have had no ill effects from it. Drinking diet sodas are fine. It's almost like drinking water. It has no calories and just 25 mg of sodium. Let me tell ya, I'm used to drinking a lot of water everyday, but water can get old after a while, and diet soda is a good alternative. Matter of fact, even on the weekends in which I cheat, I still drink Diet Pepsi, and water.

I am somewhat straddled over the fence on the aspartame issue. Whether it is bad or not, I do firmly believe that it does cause weight loss stalls. Just a little over a month ago I was on a stall and wondered if it was due to the diet sodas that I had just started drinking. I be darned if after dropping the diet sodas, I started losing again. Just my two cents.

Donna,
Diet Pepsi does have aspartame in it. The only soda that I know of that doesn't is Diet Rite which is a product by Dr Pepper. It is the only soda, that I know of, that uses splenda and has no sodium in it.

I see nothing wrong w/ diet soda once in a while. Keep in mind that any carbonated beverage in large quantities can be hard on your kidneys and of course if you are watching your sodium intake be sure to check labels some have more, some have less. I personally drink a diet soda once a week or so...its nice to have as a snack w/my lays baked chips:)
Another good low-cal alternative to water is crystal lite. It only has 5 cal per serving (8oz i believe) and comes in lots of flavors.

It may be "all in my head", but I was having trouble with aching, hot joints, especially in my hands. Someone told me that their doctor told them that diet drinks can have that effect on the body's joints. I decided to try to quit drinking my usual drinks. (I was drinking about 3 Diet Dr. Pepper, Mug Root Beer, or Mountain Dew per day.) Within a couple of days I quit hurting. It has been a couple of months since I quit drinking them and I haven't hurt since. It may be a coincidence, I don't know. I haven't seen the science behind it. But I am going to keep it up as long as I don't feel arthritic. I am 'only' 37, but I was feeling like I was 80! As for the regular soft drinks, I only posted that because of my own personal experience. Not everyone will do the same things. You might be able to just have one per week. I am an "all or nothing" kind of person, unfortunately. So I find that it is easier for me to eliminate them entirely rather than try to drink them only occassionally.
