If you are on some type of birth control, you will have a harder time losing weight or even gain wieght because of what you are taking, i remebered this just now when i was thinking about what im changing mine to the end of this month, the one I'm on now is Depopreva and it will make you gain weight and keep it on, thats one reason i have been looking for a new one..... Its something you might want to check out.

Yes, but my doctor reminded me it IS overcomeable, that it wasn't going to be a significant yearly gain. It had been my excuse until she told me I was now on a lower-estrogen one, and my excuses were over! Yikes! So talk to you drs or pharmacsts about the relationship of estrogen in pills to weight gain. That might help you too.

I recently changed my pill from Marvelon to Alessse for this reason awhile ago I posted a thread about this and several people responded that deproprovera made them gain weight. While it can be a contributing factor to weight gain - lifestyle changes will definately help.

I don't know about anyone else, just myself. The Depo stays in your system for at LEAST 3 months after just one shot. In my case, I had terrible weight gain, a bout with mild depression (my first, and so far last, thank God!) and a host of other problems. Depo used to be used to "chemically castrate" prisoners who are sex offenders. Didn't know that until much after my one and only shot. There's a site called "Depo Provera Horror Stories" sorry don't have the addy. Some stories might blame the drug too much, but I bet some don't, too. I stand behind my statement that it's a horrible drug that ought to be banned. Sorry about all that venting. Not trying to be b#$chy, just informative.

I went on the pill last year for about 8 months, and gained 30 pounds. I went off, and lost it all, about half a year later. So, I'm never going on it again. I think I can trust condoms, and chart my cycle, which is what I have been doing for a year now. I have no kids. For women who are not regular, then it's going to be alot harder, and I would advise staying on the pill or shot. It just didn't work for me.

I hate to go off the subject, but I'm 31 years old female with no children and my mom is driving me crazy with taking the pill cause she's heard it makes you infertial-has anyone else heard anything like this?

I've heard it, and I was concerned. want children someday, just not now. So, I asked my doctor, and he said, it only has a slight chance of doing that, if you are on it for like 20 years. Usually, people start having kids in thier mid-twenties. So, really, the answer is no.

My best friend is having fertility problems, and her fertility doc put her ON the pill for a while to regulate her cycles and get her ovulating regularly

Depoprovera is awful. I took it for about 8 months and I gained 20 lbs.!!! And it was so frustrating because the whole time I was taking it, I was dieting and exercising and nothing ever came off until I stopped taking it. Now I am down 15 lbs. since stopping the shots. Whew!
