 Desparate for Ideas!
Author: jenniferNva

I was just wondering if anyone had suggestion on healthy, yet good tasting dinner ideas. Its seems as though my boyfriend (whom I live with) is suffering from my weight loss. (He's in the kitchen making ramen noodles!) We both love pasta, and I am willing to sacrafice that, as so is he, but I am in the habit of making a sandwich, or eating oatmeal, or something like that, and it is making him gain weight from all of the little quick things he makes for himself. I have a hard time coming to a "happy medium." I am not a fish person, and I know that is one of the healthiest. Also, I get home from work late sometimes, so I always have my eye out for quick things.

I would appreciate as much feedback on recepies or just general ideas in low calorie dinners! Im desparate! Thanks guys!

Salad in a bag. Couldn't be quicker. Pour, slop on some low fat dressing and away you go! That'll at least hold you over until you can prepare protein and an appropriate carb.

Boneless skinless chicken breast is good also and there are tons of ways to cook it, most of which don't take much time. I also use a lot of 96% lean ground beef. I also don't like fish so you aren't alone :) Oh yeah, meatless spaghetti and green beans is one of my favorites! And if you are really short on time you could just get tv dinners for everyone. Then you can get him a regular one and yourself the diet ones, they have some awesome ones. That is what I fix for myself on nights that they are all rooting for something fattening LOL.

Stir-frys!!! In a non stick pan cook some chicken breasts(strips) then add the frozen veggies(mixed kind of your choice and 1cup of pre cooked pasta...Add a bit of chicken broth/ low fat dressing and voila, you get to eat pasta and don`t realise the smaller amount..Takes about 15 minutes to prepare...

On a day when you have extra time, cook some chicken breast strips, pork strips or beef strips...divide in the portions needed for a meal for you and your boyfriend for quick meals to come...

Take a package of your pre-cooked meat and add to non stick frying pan, add some red peppers, green peppers, onions and once cooked serve in a whole wheat wrap....you can have a big salad on the side...if you chose you can add a bit of shredded cheese for yourself and more for him...

Have your pasta and rice but use a whole wheat kind instead...

Have your pasta in the proper servings and feel up on the side sald or veggies...

For a quick pasta primevera I cook some veggies , toss in smaller amount of
pre-cooked pasta and 1 of the "cup of soup package mix with the hot water..stir to blend flavors and as long as you keep your portions samller he can have the amounts he wants...

here is a trick reduce the amount of pasta and replace with more veggies for you ... Hope this helps....G

The post above gives some excellent ideas.

I use some of those ideas, but I am more flexible when it comes to meals because my goal is to lose one pound a week (52 per year) and I do that by incorporating a 50/50 split of diet & exercise to remove the weight (that means I exercise off at least 250 calories daily and eat 250 calories less a day).

For example, last night for dinner I had a grilled pork chop (got a real thick one, about 1-1/2" and split it with hubby) with portabello mushroom gravy, mashed potato, and broccoli. However, I only had a small serving of the potato and a LARGE serving of the broccoli. Instead of whole wheat pasta, I eat the spinach pasta. And I do like to do stir frys with lots of vegetables and small amounts of beef, chicken or shrimp. Do you have a crockpot? You can dump in a bunch of stuff, plug it in, and it will be ready when you get home--make extra and bag and freeze it for another meal.

If you're not in a hurry to drop the weight fast, you can have a much wider selection of food, but you must put the emphasis on using vegetables as a main portion of your meal, concentrate on portion control for starches and protein, eat high calorie/fat foods in moderation, and EXERCISE.

And for goodness sake--if you LOVE pasta, don't sacrafice it--use portion control and moderation. That way you can have your pasta and eat it too!

I don't have much advice about eating right because I just started my change yesterday, but I do know that Smart Ones make great microwavable dinners and they hardly have any fat or cals.
