The love doctor is in!..hahaha,...j/k....you want to lose weight so hopefully this guy goes out with you right?...well firstly i wouldnt do it for him i would do it for yourself...your more important than he is...secondly how much time do you have left to ask this guy?...if you have months then sure you can drop a few but if its like weeks, then dont start for him, start losing for yourself (im a broken record i know)...i would ask the guy out as you, not as something you think he might like...looks are some things, but not everything...if he says yes then great if he says no then bummer, he lucked out.
As for weight loss the standard thing applies and heres a basic list
*cardio exercise..walking, running, anything that is moving for a considerable time and/or intensity (the latter can be shorter in duration)
*eat smaller, more frequent meals..a meal can be a tub of yoghurt and a peice of fruit so dont get too worrried and think the word meal means a steak dinner.
*eat more veggies *and fruits* and less sweets/chips/chocolates etc...even cut back on some pastas/breads, but dont go too low with carbo's like an atkins sidekick, you still need carbs, its just so many people overeat with them.

thats simply put...theres a start.

Hey GymMachine
Yes, the next dance is in December. That was when I was going to ask him out. Do you think I have enough time to drop at least 25 pounds if I realy did it?
Thanks

Hi Shy,
I agree with GymMachine that you have to do this for yourself, I think 25 pounds by December is too much and would be unhealthy for you or anybody for that matter. And if by chance you did lose that much, if would most likely be temporary and you would run the risk of gaining it back plus some extra pounds. Definitely what GM said, smaller more frequent meals throughout the day and some sort of exercise will do wonders. I usually have 5 smaller meals that consist of non-fat yogurt and a piece of fruit, or half a sandwich made with whole wheat bread and 1-2 ounces of chicken breast or tuna and a green salad piled with veggies, go easy on the dressing. Hope this helps. Jill

Hi Shy!

Hey, don't let your weight define who you are! There is so much more to you, and if the guy you want to ask out defines you by weight, then you might want to rethink asking him again! A nice smile, shining eyes, and a flattering hair cut go a long way toward making a woman lovely, and so does good posture. Simply standing up tall, pulling in your tummy, tucking your bottom under, and straightening your shoulders can take 5 to 10 pounds of the way you look. I know that it's easy for me -- married for 15 years -- to say "be yourself", but it is "yourself" that someone will have to like, so I would ask him out before someone else does! As for losing weight, do it for your health, and for your future health, not for the dance in December! Have a great Sunday evening, Cheers, Dee

Thank you all!
I appreciate the help. I will lose weight, but I will not try to push too much before December. Dropping a few pounds might be a good decision though. As for the whole date thing, I will ask the guy out sometime. When i feel ready and more comfortable. :)
I made small weight loss goals for myself throught out the year. I want to reach my goal weight before june of 2003 though.
thank you again

Shy

Shy -

Actual looks are not everything. One's perception of oneself has a lot to do with it too. I think you mentioned the word yourself - "SELF-IMAGE." One can be physically perfect, and yet, without self-love and self-confidence, somebody much "less perfect" can outshine the perfect one pretty easily.

For your health's sake, losing the extra weight is a great thing to aim for. Of course, it is only natural that the better you like the way you look, the better you will feel about yourself. However, do not let your weight/looks determine your self-confidence. While working on the excess weight, work on a positive self-image based on other attributes other than looks as well. Focus on your litttle daily successes with being a good friend, daughter, student, etc. Focus on the people who love you - you've got to be something special if all these people love you so much, right?

Very few people are genetically gifted to look "perfect," if anyone is truly is. So it's not really useful to use physical attributes as a source of self-esteem, otherwise, you might end up among those poor individuals who subject themselves to the extremes of plastic surgery and such in their quest for "happiness."

And as for dating in particular - let me tell you - you do not have to be the prettiest to get the most dates. Really watch the girls in your school - are all the most popular girls the most perfect ones? I'm sure you've noticed a girl or two who are physically more perfect than your school's most popular cheerleader - the difference being that the cheeleader knows how to "strut (and accesorize) her stuff" - aka has a really good (if not blown up...lol) self-image.
