So for the past few days, I've developed a little habit of eating a dove bar - one of the little 200 calorie ones. So, if the rest of my diet is good and I watch my calories elsewhere and eat nutrient dense foods, think I'll get any ill effects from 3 dove bars a week?

It all comes down to total calories... If the calories you consume (including those chocolate bars) are less then what you burn, you will lose weight.
By the way, I also love chocolate... especially the dark bitter kind :-)

I do the exact same thing Katie - just cut calories from somewhere else to be able to afford that chocolate luxury. I sometimes even end up a bit overindulgent once a week or so (let's say 300 calories over my daily caloric allowance) and make up for it by deducting 50 calories on my daily allowance for the next 6 days or so. I keep a strict food journal, and so long as my monthly average is within limits I'm content. And so far as I can see, it really has not affected my weight loss goals.

I treat myself to a little dark chocolate every evening after the kids are in bed! I buy it at Trader Joe's (love that store and go there once per week), and I make it a point of honour to make that big 15 OZ bar of chocolate last a week! I really savour it (it's intensly dark and very chocolately), and I am not interested in any diet that won't allow me 2 OZS of chocolate a day! I also eat a tub of low fat yogurt for a snack every afternoon, and I cherish that too (sometimes put a few broken up walnuts or pecans on top! I eat nutrient dense food with with a high fiber content most of the time, and to stay happy, that has to be "most" and not "all" the time, or I feel deprived. Deprivation is sooooo dangerous don't you think?

I agree that deprivation is dangerous. If you completely stop eating your favorite treats, you'll burn out, get sick & tired of dieting and start binging.
The keyword here is moderation. As long as MOST of the food you eat is healthy, occasional high-fat treat is ok... but not the other way around :-)
