 Danny's Tip of the Day

Struggling to up the weights in the gym? I’ve found that a lot of people have difficulty in increasing the workload of weights when in the gym and all too often they stick to the same weights and are therefore disappointed with the long term results. I’m not saying change is always necessary. One can quite easily maintain and even improve upon their body build by never changing how heavy the weights are or decreasing/increasing sets and repetitions. However, if it is progress, and rapid progress at that, which you desire, here is a top tip.

To example this we’ll use the simple enough bicep curl. Instead of having the same weight in each hand, make one almost half as light as normal and increase the other to a point where you can only curl a maximum of seven or eight at most. As you begin to lift these weights, your brain is being forced to work harder by commanding each arm to use a different strength for each weight. The result is that you are targeting the specific muscle far more effectively than if you were balancing out lower weights. Eventually you’ll notice that, if practising this technique one out of your three gym sessions a week (average gym user) your strength and stamina will increase until you can then increase the weight in both hands and continue your normal workout until you again feel you want to up the workload.

Hope this works for you.

Yours,

D

why not just do 8 reps of heavy weights with both hands?..and i dont want my brain to work harder i want my arms to work harder :P...lol, serious though i see what your saying and have heard of this before... it may work for some too for all i know, but i dont like the imbalances...it may cause one side of your body to grow stronger (alot stronger, coz one side usually is a wee bit stronger anyway) than the other, despite the fact if u tried it with both arms...but good idea though, it may help those trying to lift heavier.
