First of all I would like to say that your story has helped give me some more motivation to keep up my dieting. I am 17 years old. I have been fat for most of my life, but it didn't get to the extremely unhealthy point until I was around 15 or 16. I was 5'8 and 240lbs. I wore size 22 in pants and size XL - XXL shirts(mens sizes. I hardly ever wore women’s shirts because I didn't like the fabric to be tight on my stomach.). Even though I knew in the back of my mind I was over 100lbs overweight I was in denial about how fat I really was. It stayed in denial until last summer when I took part in a 4th of July parade with a charity group that I volunteer with. They, of course, took pictures to put on their web page, and when I saw those pictures, posted on the net for the entire world to see, I was mortified. I didn't even recognize myself. My first thought when I saw them was, "Who is that disgustingly obese woman? I don't remember seeing her at the parade." Then, to my horror, I realized that "disgustingly obese woman" was me. At that point it hit me that I needed to loose weight. I could no longer lie to myself, and say that I wasn't *that* fat. Since July of last year I have lost 70lbs. I now weigh 170lbs and wear size 16 pants, and size L to XL shirts in women’s sizes! I know that sounds like a great success story, but its not. I'm happy that I have lost this much weight, but I still have a fold of fat and stretched skin over my belly button and other places. My thighs and arms are still really flabby too. It seems like it will never go away, and the more weight I loose the worse it gets. I feel like I worked so hard to loose my weight just to have it thrown back into my face. I realize that I'm still about 30lbs to 40lbs overweight and that it might get better, but I just have myself convinced that it won't. This is very discouraging, and I am starting to give up hope of ever being skinny and beautiful. I really haven't been on any type of diet. I just cut my meals down to two a day(lunch and dinner) with no snacks in between. I also started running on my tredmill, and using a resistance training machine about 5 days a week. I haven't been exercising for the past month, though, do to lack of time. Is there anything that I can do to get rid of the extra skin, and prevent anymore from acumulating? Is there anything that I'm doing wrong in my weight loss plan that is causing me to keep the extra skin? Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Your skin was stretched to accommodate all those extra pounds and now it's just not as tightly wrapped around your new body. Sometimes, stretched skin catches up with the body and, over time, regains it's former elasticity, But there's also a chance that it may not tighten up. When this happens, there isn't much that can help besides a surgical nip and tuck. However, you still need to view 70lbs lost as a huge victory! Just remember that it took years to gain that weight and your skin to stretch like it did, so I would give it some time and see if it tightens back up...
Great Job and Good Luck!!!

I can imagine the frustration when face with some of the aspect of your weightloss....One thing I`m pretty sure that should work in your favour is the fact that you are still young and that your skin may go back by itself...I do agree about you doing toning exercises in those areas and pilates may be a good way...I have one suggestion that may help hold the skin in while you exercise and maybe help in the long run, wearing a supportive body suit(body shaper) with long sleeve and boy cut leg(or sport short in the lycra)may help you while you work out...It definitly wouldn`t hurt....Also you may at this point consider talikng with a dietician who may answer some of or most of your concerns and guide you so that you can obtain the healthy lifestyle you deserve...Your Doctor should be able to help you find one....Good luck, don`t give up now you have come so far...G

I know it can be discouraging to feel like you have been losing weight forever and still not be done. Just keep in mind it took 17 years to get where you were and even if it takes a year to get where you want to be you are still young and have 60 years to enjoy your healthy self! You should feel so proud of the weight you have lost...70lb is sooo exciting.
I have the same struggle you do. I've lost 70lb since july 1'st and I still have another 70 to go. Sometimes when I look @ myself I still see myself as huge (partly because my body is still basically shaped the same just smaller) so one thing I do is put on my old 22 pants. It helps me get a reality check cuz they are now HUGE on me and they used to be tight. It really does help me feel better cuz I think 'wow, in a few mo I'm gonna try on my 16's and they are gonna look like this!"
As to the skin problem, I know its hard but try to not worry about it until you are @ your goal weight. Even the last 10lbs you lose may suprise you and be that last little inch. I would say add some toning excersise to your routine. That will give you the muscle under the skin and make you look leaner and more fit. And maybe if you add a little bulge of muscle it will fill out the little extra skin you may have.
