Hi guys,
I've heard a whole lot about the healthclub called Curves for Women and I was wondering if it was right for me. I am 17 years old and not serioulsy overweight but I DO need to lose some of it. I want to start going to a gym but I don't really feel comfortable going to one. Curves for Women sounds like a nice place to go. But I was wondering if this sort of excercise program would be helpful to me..I've heard a lot about how it's for older women, but any age female is aloud to go. I saw earlier posts of Curves so I was hoping that some of you could give me some feedback..Thank you SO much! :-)

I am far from 17 years old, but I do go to curves ( just started this week ) and so far I love it. I think that it is a good place to start and a great alternative to traditional gyms. I find the environment very motivating, and I find that I am more comfortable there in the all female environment than at my previous gym. You could also start working out at home, by doing video tapes etc.

GO! it is a very supportive environment. I don't do it...for my own reasons...but they will help you with your nutrition and as I understand it...they have two ways of going about it...and the workout is a circuit...you do one exercise...for a specific time frame..then move to the next...you do this until you have done it all the way through and then you do it again...for I think the girl I know said 6 times...and they are open 6 days a weeks and it is not just for older women. I personally saw some girls around your age walking into the one near me last week on my walk.
If you have a few extra bucks and can make it to the facility to train...then do it...what have you got to lose??? ha ha ha...Obviously everything you want.

I was told Curves was a great place to start, but, if you really want to build muscle, it wasn't the place to go. The environment is so fast paced you don't have time to adjust the weight on the machines.
However, this is just what I was told. I have never gone there personally.

Curves is for everyone!! I manage 2 clubs, and it is a great enviroment, and very supportive. We do have a great eating plan with an even better maintenance plan, where you end up dieting only 2 to 3 days a month. We have memebers of every shape, size and age. Most clubs have a great student plan. People are haveing great results with our program and it is strength training program set up in circuit form. Strength training is what has been missing from womens work outs for years. With this program you get both the strength training and the aerobic that you need. Call the club today and set up a free no obligation figure analysis. Oh I forgot to tell you, my daughter who is 16 and not over weight is a member and loves it!

Hmmm. I was just into a Curves today for a free analysis and to check out membership. There was a lot of pressure to join, I received no analysis, and they were pretty cranky when I wanted to give it some thought. Also the machines are not adjustable to anyone's height or size like regular nautillus or cybex. I am "post baby" and looking for means back into shape. I think I will stick with a regular gym (the second place I visited today) it's less expensive, nicer and has better hours. As an alternative to any of this, walking is great. I lost 60 pounds 9 years ago by walking about 3.5 miles a day (and adjusting to healthier eating). It took about 8 months, but was worth it and it stayed off until the pregnancy - but that's another issue. Too bad the weather is poor or I would just stick to that. Good Luck!

Hi Sam!
I have been going to Curves for two months and a little bit now. I don't follow their meal plan and have lost 13lbs and about 9 inches. I also work out at home a couple of times a week (yoga/aerobics). The circuit time is thirty miuntes, so depending on where you go and the owners, you may do two times around or three. They all recommend to go three times a week - but no more. I believe that each of us knows our own limits so I pay the monthly fee (I'm in Nova Scotia and it's cheaper than most gyms) and kinda do what I want. I love it and it's working. I have heard that once you reach a certain point, you may need to do other training, but I'm far from that so I'll cross that brdige when I get to it. If anyone feel pressured about joining, just remember that each one is owned individually - everyones experience will be different. Most importantly, no one can make you do something you don't want do unless you let them. Do what's best for you. Someone else recommended a site to me (voy.com) through this board to a Curves discussion group for both memebers and owners. It's pretty good to answer a lot of questions and to get reviews. Good luck!!
