How is Curves for women? I am currently a member of a regular gym (New York Sports Club) and I was thinking of switching over to Curves. My goal is to lose 10 more pounds. Any opinions?

I'm not a curves member, but from what I understand it is a great starting place for ladies that have not been active in a gym already. I would think that going from a full gym, with all the equipment, classes, and ammenities to curves, might be a let down or backtracking. I think the classes are only about 30 minutes and they only have like 6 or 8 pieces of equipment that everyone rotates on during that class. I myself get a lot more benefiet out of classes and lots of equipment to chose from.

Well how can I put this in a way that doesn`t sound "petty" or judgemental...hmm let me think...My sister -in-law is now doing "curves" and her biggest cardio work out in 40 yrs has been avoiding anything physically asking(demending doesn`t seem appropriate here)....So my point is like Melody if you are already at a gym it would be like going from a ferrari to a safari..(no insult intented)...You would be go backwards...You may maintain the weight you are at but would probably have a harder time with your food intake....Hope this makes sense

I attend Curves and it has definitely helped with losing weight but in my opinion, I would stay at the gym you're at now. I have already decided that after volleyball season is over in the fall, I'm going to stop going to Curves and join a regular gym to get an even better work out.

Hi, After having my first child in May of 2001, I joined a gym and worked out 3x a week with a trainer. I loved it and saw great results, then I got pregnant with my second baby, had him in November of 2003, and I did not have time to got to my gym and see my trainer anymore. I switched to Curves and have been going for 2 months. Here is my honest opinion...I like it because it is a quick workout that you can make quite intense, but I find that I am not really building the muscle I would like. My arms used to have way more definition, and now I feel like I am just toning. I would stay at your gym...I am trying to work it out so I can go back to my gym. Curves, is great in terms of motivation, they weigh and measure once a month, but I am sure you could do this at any gym or yourself.
