Here I sit at 3:37 in the morning. I woke up about fifteen minutes ago and had an interesting experience.
I experienced a craving. Perhaps I was just hungry (last time I ate was about 5:30 yesterday evening), but my body said to me, "Food. NOW. No, no no, I don't care that you are watching your diet, GIVE ME FOOD NOWWW!!!"
So I had myself a couple pop tarts and about 3/4 a cup of 1% milk. Bringing the grand total of calories to about 500. One third of what I would like to allow myself per day.
I have this thing going *ding ding ding* in the back of my mind. Either the people who make up the nutritional requirments and expect that a person should eat 2000 calories a day are insane, or I'm not eating the right stuff.
Hahaha, 1 cup of 1% milk has 110 calories. I'm sorry, I must pause for a minute and...
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! That is the funniest thing I have ever heard! I used to down 2 glasses a day, and now apparently a "sip" is what I should have been drinking.
I don't get it. How do thin people stay thin? Granted, they may not eat as much as I used to, but they sure are eating more than me now! I mean, I eat like this:
1 tiny bowl of cereal (that I finished in about 30 seconds)
1/2 a grapefruit
1 turkey sandwich on rye
2 nutragrain bars
1 turkey sandwich on whole grain.
That is what I ate yesterday. Is this honestly what fit people eat? Or am I not going about this the right way? According to the good old food pyramid, if I have 6-12 of the wheat food group, I'd have had between 660 and 1320 calories.
I guess I'm confused... Am I acctually eating a normal days intake?

Scotto? scroll back a few days and read the threads called 'what did you eat today'.
Just off the top of my head I think that's alot of bread and not enough vegetables. And there are many better choices than poptarts.
Do you use fitday or some other nutrient counter?
Maybe it's time for another thread about 'what did you eat'.

Scott, if you eat lean proteins and fiber, you will feel fuller. Load up on carrots, green beans, salads and fruits. Use these things as snacks (especially late at night) and you will feel fuller longer. Be sure to use fat free dressings.
Instead of cereal, try to eat 100% whole grain oatmeal. 1/2 cup, with 1 cup of water in the microwave for 2.5 minutes. Then add splenda and cinnamon. It is only 150 calories and it will help you feel full in the mornings. Also, it has good slow burning carbs. I sometimes use this to knock back hunger, it really makes you feel full.
Instead of 1/2 grape fruit, eat one or two cups of fresh mixed fruit. Again, low calorie good carbs.
You might want to consider eating a chicken breast (grilled) with some spices. That will boost your protein, which you need to keep muscle mass.
With only a few changes, you could eat more and still keep your calories down. Also, those multigrain bars are high in calories. Look for Pria bars, they sell a brand with only 110 calories.

No wonder you're hungry, you're not eating enough. No way does that total no 2000 calories. Are you even COUNTING calories? How did you arrive at the "2000" figure? If you're seriously trying to follow a 2000 calorie diet, you sure as heck can eat more than THAT. I eat quite a bit more than that in one day and I'm only on 1500.
Vegetables, lean meats, and as Don suggested, do oatmeal in the morning. It's much more filling than a "tiny bowl of cereal."
Also, do as Susan suggested, go read some of our "what did you eat today?" threads. Get some ideas of the foods you could and should be eating.
Cut back on the bread a little and you can squeeze in more calories of other good stuff. Although it ~is~ good that you're eating whole grain breads. Nothing wrong with that at all. But you can save calories for other yummy things by eating only one sandwich a day instead of two.

Oh! lol, well that's good then, because I think most of us are doing around the same amount of calories and you can keep an eye out for our "what we've eaten today" posts and get some ideas :)
